Pics! Definitely want to hear how the NP3 BCG works outGot most if everything else, Hiperfire EDT2 trigger, BCG, Geissele charging handle, All the furniture. I did end up going for that Siconics NP3 BCG for the simple reason that chromed BCGS from Daniel Defense, BCM and several other quality maufactures are unavailable right now. The Scionics one seems to be very well spoken of and is only a $20 premium over the standard phosphated BCM item, though I did score the former on sale. All I think is left are backup sights and a sling.
Its supposed to be better than any other finish. I'm sure it will be fine, if not its an easily replaceable item.Pics! Definitely want to hear how the NP3 BCG works out
when i read the first line my mind went straight to a zombie green.Yknow what irritates me? I want all the furniture in green cause I think green on a black rifle looks kewl and I really wanted to try a battlelink minimalist stock. The rest of the furniture is Magpul. The stock is only available in foliage green the Magpul stuff only in OD green. Hopefully it won't look too horribly mismatched!

I feel the same way about those greens. OD green is my favorite and I agree about the OD/black combo.Yknow what irritates me? I love that pattern, but i wasn't sure how the white colorfill would look with it. i think it looks pretty good though. I'm currently looking at the strike industries viper stock, it has see through cuts so it will create a nice pattern with the red buffer tube.gonna go for a chrome FA, Nibx or similar bcg and stainless barrel to round it out. than i have a handstop or bipod mount, whichever i feel like running at the time, that is also red anodized that i'll put at the end of my black handguard. this is the plan anyways.Red on black looks pretty bad ass too!
I have no real opinion of them, but they were the only ones with a good looking red buffer tube i could find. the strike industries one is nice but it's kinda over-engineered for something that's going to be almost completely covered up. on a side note though, their "mil-spec trigger" that came in their LPK i had lying around did not fit in the lower. Probably would of gone with someone else had i not gotten a deal on it. good thing i didn't intend on using it. probably won't be getting any more parts from there. Not a big fan of DSI but that's another matter. Your build looks really cool so far. I like the red and black also.
It's funny you mention the LPK not fitting the lower. The LPK I used is a DPMS and I also had some issues with fitment but the kit was honestly one I bought for spare parts anyway. Perhaps I'll invest in a better FCG down the road. This lower has some neat features I haven't seen on other lowers I've built. was definitely not as stressed putting together this lower than my first one. the set screw in the bolt catch is like a bloody god send. also discovered a new way to put in the front takedown pin today. It's funny you mention the LPK not fitting the lower. This is gonna be my go out of state and compete in 3 gun build. So I think 18 is my best bet for a do all rifle. Good to know about ba. I never really heard of them until recently. It does seem they only do mid length in the ~18 inchers. Plus I get a free stripped upper. Maybe if I finally get payed for my side work ill pick this up sometime soon.@Bullet Guy swears by the BA barrels. Based on his recommendation I am doing a Hanson profile 14.5 mid length in carbon steel w/ 55.6 NATO chamber and 1:7 twist. This is for 0-200 yard lightweight fighting carbine. For you I would suggest the 1:8 twist. If BA offers a rifle length gas system on their 18" barrels it would be something to consider, would be a soft shooting sweetheart. 16" is a good length though, nice and handy without worrying about pinning stuff onto the barrel.
18" is a good all rounder but seems a little wasted on the mid length gas. Shame. Personally that would tilt things toward the 16". Not much velocity difference between them really. This is gonna be my go out of state and compete in 3 gun build. So I think 18 is my best bet for a do all rifle. Good to know about ba. I belive they have it in the Hanson profile as well. They do have a 16in mid length that's a pencil profile. The spec on it says it dropped about 12 oz from the 18 in .750. That one may be best option if the velocity difference really is fairly insignificant for under 400 yrds.
Think thats the one im looking at, they have both a .625 and a .750. Pretty much a straight profile all the way down on both.I belive they have it in the Hanson profile as well.
If anything ill pick up a new grip. The enamel paint is supposed to be good at staying put though so hopefully thats true. Just got bored last night and had paint on hand.I think all red would have looked better. Personally I wouldn't want anything on the gripping area.
I like it. It also fits the motif of your grip.Think the grip is staying. seems solid enough to hold up like that. also go my stock in yesterday.
On to the upper, how do y'all feel about tube handguards. since i won't be running irons on this and i want to try to keep the weight in the front end down, i think it may be my best bet.
Specifically:
AR-15/M16 Dragon Scale 12" Handguard : DOUBLE STAR AR-15/M16 DRAGON SCALE 12" FREE FLOAT HANDGUARD | Brownells
Gives me a bit extra capital to put into the optic. and with a quality barrel and bolt i should be all set.
This build has pretty much turned it's head over three times as far as what it is going to end up being. I think i'm finally narrowing it down though. It's gonna look kinda futury and wonky, but aside from the weird paint, it will be basically functional.I like it. It also fits the motif of your grip.
