To each their own.
Some people travel a lot and use/ need an out of State license. Other's like to have as many licenses as they can get. Everyone is different. Get what suit your need/want. There is no wrong or right way.
A long time ago, I considered getting a Utah license, but realized I don't visit any of the State that honor it. Then I though about getting a Pa license, but I don't really visit PA either. I intend to move far away from NYS, so that's when I'll get a different lic. lol

I have finally gotten all the ones I believe that I need. I have my NYS resident, Pennsylvania, Florida and Connecticut. All of them are because I have reason to be in each of those states. I may let some of them lapse as situations change, but for now I need them. Connecticut was the most trouble, and then it wasn't terrible. Of course my New York wasn't bad when I got that either.

Doesn't the cost of renewing many different permits become prohibitive? PA is cheap but some of these others aren't.

Florida is the most expensive and it comes out to about 14 bucks a year. If you get the right combinations of permits to get the maximum amount of states possible, you are looking at about 100 bucks a year if that with about 6 permits to get you the maximum number of states.

I get the maximum allowable for the states I travel thorough. If there are states that I have to travel through that don't offer a way to be legal, I can be legal by unloading via FOPA or totally ignoring those and taking my chances if I wanted to be a criminal.

I still want the maximum number of states though because I'll only have to worry about 2 states instead of 6 states for example.

Years and years ago, when I first received my NY PP, I did not realize that it was only good on NY. Never thought about it, never researched it; never thought there was a reason to look anything up.

For a couple of years, I carried everywhere I went, vacation, and the such.

Fast forward a few years and I learned the truth. I went to PA and applied there so I could carry legally in WV when visiting my mom.

I was going to get Florida, but then I got my current job and now these other permits are not needed. Wish it was the same for all.

I have several permits, the reason I do is because i am afraid laws may change and not for the better, the hopes were is one is no longer valid (law change) I would have others as back up. I do travel with fire arms for competions and I think Florida And PA would cover most folks , I know folks with permits that have not traveled out of NY with there fire arms

I have my home state of Washington, Pennsylvania, Utah, Arizona and Oregon.
They change the resipeication, you lose some states and some times you gain a state or two.

What it cost over the generally five years the cost isn't much per month. It is hell of a lot cheaper then carrying with out permit if you get caught.

FL - was living there first, required live fire
AZ - was living there . . .
NY - came back to live here, had to wait to get it before transferring guns in
PA - hey, why not?
States traveled where I was covered - NY, PA, VA, W. VA, NC, SC, GA, FL, MS, AL, LA, TX,TX,TX ( hey it's a big state ), NM, AZ, MO, OK, OH, IN
Where I was NOT covered by a permit, per US Code 18, ss 926A, where the firearms were unloaded, secured, and separated from the ammo - IL

NY, PA, FL, AZ.

AZ may not have unique coverage nowadays, but reciprocity agreements change all the time - it's always good to have some redundancy built in. Not to mention, the AZ permit is cheap ($60 initial, $43 renewal), the process is painless, and the requirements are easy to meet (you likely have already met them).

Like others I have NY, CT, FL, PA and UT. All pretty easy to get. This is the coverage it gets me.
