Pulled over with my CCW

Was pretty zoned out the other day on I-81 after a long work day, had a 45 minute drive, saw a road pirate (state trooper), and he clocked me at 85mph in a 65. First thing I did was put both hands on the wheel and told him that I have a CCW, he was really nice, told me “thank you for disclosing that to me, many people don’t” and kept thanking me, shot the shit for a minute, really nice guy but I received my first ever ticket :/ went smooth though, just a little nervous!

Don't just send it in and send money or give them money. Go in and plead your case. Be honest, be respectful, and dress halfway decent. It goes a long way.

Plead not guilty. If it's your first, they might dismiss or reduce. 1110a is a common plea. Failure to obey a traffic control device. It used to be a 2 pt violation as opposed to the 6 you're looking at. Depending on the municipality, they might reduce it to a local law violation. That way they don't have to share as much money with the state.

Although NY does not have a "Duty to Inform" law, I always have in some way. I've never experienced a negative outcome for that. YMMV

Yes which really surprised me! He noticed my gear in the back of the car, said, “I noticed you were in the service when I first came up, thanks for your service” then handed me a ticket LOL. I was like, “shit it didn’t work!” But I thought he would bump it down when I saw the ticket in his hand when he was walking back. Usually the good ole’ CAC does the trick

So it happened in the town of Hastings district and the judge is a really huge asshole and doesn’t cut breaks, so I got a lawyer and he’ll get it bumped down to something else instead of points.

I wanted to go to court myself and apologize, dress up, and everything but everyone said the judge won’t care and to either write the DA or get a lawyer, I’m all about fessing up to wrong doings, I think apologies can go a long way.

Later that day I was on the beach with my dog, I saw a guy on a gator with a NYSP hat on, he pulled up to me, we were talking for a bit and I jokingly told him to get me off the ticket, he said “where at?” I said, “Hastings” he said, “oh you’re fucked there” and I said that’s what I’ve been hearing all day lol

Not sure about that town, but usually they will contact you and offer something lower because if you plead guilty or are found guilty of the 20 mph over, the state gets the fine, if its lowered the town gets it.

The unofficial speed limit on most highways, outside the built up areas is 80, keep it at 79. For highways going through urban areas the most you are likely to get away with is no more than 10, limit yourself to 9 over. For urban/suburban highway areas with a 55mph limit 62 is fairly safe. For anything that is not a highway anything more than 5 over is risky, but on a long, straight rural stretch you *may* get away with 10 over. Speeds over these unofficial limits is likely to garner a ticket. 20 over is almost a surefire pullover and may get you a reckless driving charge. Tailgating and/or weaving will very likely get you pulled over, doing so while speeding is a certainty, don't tailgate or weave. The end of the month quota thing is real no matter how adamantly cops claim otherwise so best behavior at the end of the month.
85 anywhere in NY is definitely getting you pulled over. You have to be out in the ding weeds in the Dakotas or on I-10 through Texas to get away with that speed.

Some state it is a legal requirement, failure to comply can get your ccw permit pulled. Or worse. I don't agree but that's the reality of it.

New York is not one of those states.

Wait until you get the bill regardless of it’s mocked down or not. My wife got an inspection ticket and it was $55 for the ticket and a $95 state surcharge. It’s was insane. NYS applies a $95 or a $110 surcharge to every ticket if I remember correctly.

My wife recently got pulled over on a two lane road in the middle of no where Montana. Speed limit is 70 during the day and 65 at night, she was doing 78 at night.

She thought it was going to cost her a few hundred knowing what tickets cost in NY. He dropped it to 10 over, $20 fine, no court fees or surcharges and no points. She could have paid him right there on the side of the road but didn’t have $20 cash on her.
