How is that being an asshole? Cop is required to enforce the law as that is his job. 20mph is more than just 3 or 4 miles per hour over. That’s a substantial amount over the speed limit. If you don’t like the speed limit than petition the state to have it changed. From all accounts the cop was polite and professional in doing his job and did not detain the individual any more than necessary.
I've seen people who have done worse get let off, but to be fair, they can't let everyone go. It is what it is. We all get speeding tickets, sooner or later. OP will go to live a long and happy life, I'm sure.

100% this is the reality and my 101 followed procedure (for me in residential areas 40 mph and under I do one over max out of respect to home owners.) It does matter what kind of stretch of road you are on. Urban / suburban with 55 limit 62 is max for sure.
This is true, we have a DA in my Town just for this. You see him first and then the judge after you plead. Judges do have some room for judgment on fines. In our town most speeding tickets are lowered to parking tickets thus non moving violations. It helps you and it helps us the town, we get a good amount of fine money (all good paper 10 over!).

How is that supposed to work ? Say I'm traveling through Broome county and for some reason one of your boy scouts pulls me over, and I fail to tell him about the gat on my hip ( I would not disclose that information ) then he asks me to step out of the vehicle and sees the pistol. I'm not from Broome, I have no clue as to there being any duty to inform there since the State has no duty to inform. Then I fight the bullshit ticket and the judge is informed that I didn't tell the douche wearing the purple tie that I had a gun. Not a law, not my problem. How can this high and mighty judge do a damn thing to have my permit revoked ? Seems to me that an attempt by him to take that action would be very quickly counteracted by me petitioning the court to have him removed and disbarred ( assuming he has a legal degree ) for his action.
Exactly my point. They don't like the law as written, so they intimidate everyone into doing what they WANT the law to be. All the more reason to DISOBEY their wishes. Conforming to their bullshit is EXACTLY how liberties are lost. Freedom is easily given away, but never easily regained. Screw the judge and his bullshit.

I know NY isn't. The whole country is not NY, some states have a duty to inform some do not. Pennsylvania does not but you are required to answer truthfully if directly asked. You can choose to lie and that is an individual choice and that choice requires that you are able to accept the potential consequences. To accept the consequences of one's actions one must first be aware of the parameters governing those actions. Since states can very wildly in their legal requirements a churlish attitude can get one into needles trouble.
I keep my wallet on the center console, never in my pocket when I'm driving. Registration and insurance is above the driver's side visor.
