Since the Ruger PCC is so damned hard to clean throughly unless you take it completely apart and that would mess up the torque screws eventually, I'm curious what your round count is like without throughly cleaning the receiver.

Mine is at about a thousand rounds give or take a couple hundred. What's yours?

I should read the whole post before commenting, sorry. Why not spray it down with balistol and wipe it down. Clean and lube in one step. I don't think you need to break it down completely after a thousand rounds.

Yeah, if its anything like a 10/22 cleaning can be done annually. The 10/22 is kind of a PITA to disassemble as well. I just pour Hoppes into it and blow it out with an air can then I spritz oil into the action and bore. Blowback actions don't need much attention.

Never had that issue with mine and I've owned 3 but then again not all are built the same :idk:

I just plan on never cleaning it. Just cleaning the bore. Ruger sucks. I hate them. If I wasn't forced to use their products for legality, I never would.

Firearms shouldn't be hard to take apart. The AR platform can be disassembled with one hand to clean. No torque wrenches, no punches, nothing.

Back in the day I could understand. But
it's totally unacceptable to design something like that today.

It isn't a matter of laziness @nortatoga . It's a matter of field expedience. If I find myself out in the field for days at a time, I should be able to field strip my firearm to wipe it down if it gets wet or full of mud without losing zero and fumbling with tiny torque screws and wrenches.

Even the 80 year old SKS could be field stripped without tools.

To be honest though you don't even need to take the action out of the stock for routine cleaning.
You have all the access you need when you take the barrel off.
I think you are just looking for things to be a grumpasaurus about.

I'm not being a a grump at all. You can't get to the bolt when you take the barrel off. You can get to the front of it, but that about it. The insides are still dirty. Being a get up and go gun, if it gets soaked, it'll rust from the inside unless I take tools with me. And let's not forget the loctite on the charging handle torque screw and the torque screw on top of the receiver that I had to put on since they would loosen after a few hundred rounds.

Like I said before, take the barrel off, clean that however you normally do and then spray or pour the solvent of your choice onto the bolt face and into the ejection port, run the action a few times and let it soak a bit. Then blow out the action with compressed air and let it dry. Then do the same thing with the oil of your choice. Very simple.

Then the solvent runs into the stock. If the solvent is oil based, it'll drip forever. If it's dry chemical based, it'll start eating away at the plastic. That doesn't get all the carbon out either or the surface rust that way if it gets wet for a few days. That goes against everything I ever learned in regards to cleaning firearms.

That's not how I do things. It's a piss poor design. Why anyone would defend the design is beyond me.

It's not grumpiness. It's a statement of fact. There is no excuse for a design like that. Even the mini 14 can be taken down without tools and doesn't have screws that loosen on their own with normal use.

It's the only game in town in this state unless you want to play the AR game which is questionable legality-wise and just plain stupid with the neutering you have to do with it for serious use if you want something that'll take your Glock magazines . I'm just saying that it's a poor design and you are defending it like it's the bee's knees. It shoots good, I'll give it that but it has issues due to a poor design and you are defending it for some reason.

A modern firearm shouldn't be put together with torque screws that come loose with regular use and you shouldn't have to lose zero if you mounted an optic on the rail every time you take it apart to clean it properly.

I guess I'll just have to not clean it properly. But hey. Ruger hit a home run here.....:banghead:
