Yeah I really can't believe that attitude. Is it because of the method he used to transport? What if someone does everything they're "supposed" to do and still lose a gun? For instance a pistol falls out of a holster without the owner knowing. Should they lose their permit? Where do we draw the line?

Heh. I thought the same thing. In all seriousness, all this talk of always knowing where ALL of your guns are is funny. You can only really know where you left them and where you think they are but that's about it. Shit happens. I'd like to see someone that agrees with this guy losing his permit say that if they lost a gun they should have their own permit taken away (and actually mean it).

So let me share a story, Friends live in Florida. in Florida you don't need a permit to own a gun and you can keep it in your home, Also your home extends somehow to our car. So you can also have a gun in your car you just cant conceal carry it. So lots of folks have a house gun and a car gun for protection. Well why I was visiting a car was broken into and the car gun was stolen. And I said how careless of that person to leave a gun in the car to be stolen he should be fined, locked up, lose his other guns ! And a person I was talking to said WAIT he is the victim. The bad person stole the gun . That made me re-think the entire situation and opened my Eyes to the simple words of "Shall Not Be Infringed" Yes some people make what I might be considered a stupid thing to do, but the truth is SHALL NOT BE INFRINGED means just that. so you are either FOR shall not be infringed or your against it, but you cant pussy foot around and say yes I support the second amendment but only if you don't make any mistakes. , Reminds me of the FUDDS (hunters) saying nobody needs to carry a hand gun, Or why do you need a sporting rifle (Assault Rifle) We have to stand together

Rubbish...The Fla law as you stated,allows handguns in the car...or house. Your car getting broken into is the same as your house. Strapping a gun to the roof of a vehicle in a sack is just plain ignorant if not stupid. Why carry on your person...tape it to the windshield instead...leave on a bicycle....it's all the same...and all the same stupid and IRRESPONSIBLE. My opinion of the idiot who strapped the handgun to his roof has NOTHING to do with my opinion of the 2nd amendment . Having a handgun is a right....so then get one, load it up and give it to your children,,,won't happen because RESPONSIBILITY is what matters..as with anything when in charge of a deadly weapon, be irt a handgun,long gun knife, etc

Also what about the restrictions that say hunting and target on his permit. 99% of the people that have that walk into the gun shop and have left their pistol in their vehicle because they believe they can't carry it on them. Even though it is a conceal carry permit. Who is to say that he thought he couldn't have had his pistol holstered and on him. That way it never would have been lost out of the Jeep

Correct....People are "supposed" to be responsible for their property. Having a permit and not knowing what your responsibilities are, is just plain stupid.
People can and do just about everything and then when they make a STUPID mistake; they want sympathy...someone to love and give a warm fuzzy. I presume that is the position of a few here. The first words out of the County clerks office, in Niagara County, was "NEVER leave your handgun in your vehicle when not there" AND there also was a few other statements, in type/on paper with other statements on CARRY responsibilities. Do I like the permitting/NY system...NO...but the Judge signed the permit with the understanding that I was/am a responsible individual and will follow the instructions. I'm going to keep my part of the bargain. AND as far as not "knowing" what to do with a handgun....call the particular County office and ask. IF in doubt...don't do it until sure.

Interesting. Here in Capitol Region they put the restrictions on the permit holder such as Target and Hunting and provide no other information. That is an administrative restriction. The LGS's explain to the permit holders that they must not leave their Pistols in their vehicles no matter what and to make sure they carry them. 1% of the permit holders listen and 99% leave them in their vehicles as they are afraid they will get arrested carrying a concealed weapon. The LGS employees have expressed this till they are blue in the face. So don't be so harsh to judge since your area is different

Not you're drivers license, but maybe you house as your insurance co. may not cover you when you are sued! Same as if your firearm hurts or kills someone? Just MAYBE ?

I agree people should know their responsibilities. However in REALITY I can tell you with 100% certainty that MANY of these restricted permit holders have no clue that they CAN carry their pistol on them at all times and not leave them in the car even when going to and from the range or hunting. The Judges and the Permit offices should indeed instruct everyone of them. BUT THEY DON'T. SO let's say for argument sake he thought he was not allowed to carry his pistol on him. So what do you suggest he do with it? EVERYDAY I am at the gun shop and I mean EVERY DAY this question is asked and EVERY DAY the gun shop owners instruct the permit holders to CARRY their pistol concealed. EVERY FREAKING DAY THESE PERMIT HOLDERS ARGUE BACK THAT THEY ARE NOT ALLOWED TOO>>>>EVERY DAMN DAY
