Shed build

My 1100sq ft box house in Fairport cost me $5k for a tear off and resheathing. The roof was probably 6-700 sq ft with 1 dormer. Just for reference.

That's the problem. He also quoted 3k to build a shed too. Compared to anything from HD, it'll be infinitely better. Pretty much any project at HD for $1500 is made with cheap chipboard. Even some of their sheds from 2-3k are as well. A 3k shed would probably be a pretty nice shed. There are smaller options, some people have recommended the plastic/resin sheds too. I'm not sure what a square costs for roofing, but compared to your house, my garage is only 200sq ft max.

I've also got my hands on diy shed plans, but doing something that big myself kinda scares me. I'm handy and can build things, but I guess I just see it as kind of daunting.

Either way, for now, I will get the roof done first, and go from there. I have another contractor coming out Thursday, so we'll see what he says.

No problem. I'd come out to Rochester for the right project but my issue is I'd need to charge for lodging so I think you'd do better price wise with local guy. Just trying to give you some reference points. Hard to be exact without seeing it. Good luck.

We had a house done last year. 2150 and it was $8500 for a tear off and reshingling with architectural shingles and ice shield and whatever the standard stuff is now. I think you and I both got similarly decent deals. $3k feels like a good chunk for that shed but on the other hand there is a floor on the time and effort involved in even just driving out somewhere.

Having only shingled one shed it looks like to me a professional could do the tear off for that and any repairs in a day and then maybe a day for the shingling? I think his quote would probably end up being over $100/hour in labor.

When they quoted my roof they of course were only qyuoting shingles. We needed two pieces of sheathing replaced to cover the old air vents, so that was on top of it.

$8,500 for 22 squares with tear-off is a decent price. Fair to both you and contractor IMO.

I think my ~1300sq ft Cape got a whole new roof in 2017/18. Had cedar shakes as well. Full reroof was 6500, and an additional 3150 for soffit/trim, fascia, insulation, and new gutters. I found the measurements, it was 15 square

I hate that I’m buried in my own projects. I’d be more than happy to help do that roof. I’ve all but rebuilt my shed (siding and roof are all new, only left the framing). It took a couple weekends of solid work, but it was me working mostly by myself until my dad half helped with the roof (he can’t swing a hammer these days so that slowed things down a lot).

That's all I really need, is someone who has or can build stuff like this. I've just never attempted anything like this and don't know code or anything other than what I can read or have already read. That's what intrigues me about the site I found with plans and blueprints. I feel like I could do that at my own pace.

Back at it today. Got the soffit done above wood shed that was a PITA lol. Finished some things on interior and got trim on front done. Coming out really nice.



Hopefully get trim finished tomorrow and ramp built. Will start on wood shed if all goes well. Home stretch!

Well got the trim finished and ramp built came out nice.





Cut down some 2x6's for the ramp joists its rock solid had the side by side on it no problem. 10 degree incline not to steep. Going to fill front in with some soil to bring it up to level of the boards. I wanted to leave about 1-1/2" on end of the joists for support.



Just the wood rack and painting left will finish after holiday. At least its usable now lol...

@cgrutt, I have a ramp on my shed also and it is slippery as snail snot when wet or snow. I put black slip strips on the ramp so I or the SO doesn't break something.
