This is Aaron Feis, a Football coach at Parkland High School who stepped in front of students when the shooting began taking several bullets. He's currently in critical condition. Make him more famous than the shooter.

I like that idea, Celt. I always thought that the NRA's School Shield proposal was a good starting point but I think a lot can be done relatively inexpensively that could go a long way to helping solve this problem. I mean, seriously...we spend millions on airport security which is basically a joke and an excuse for some bureaucrat to grab at you junk but we can't do simple things like you suggest that will have a profound impact on school security?
I will also add that for a brief period of time I worked as school security. We weren't allowed to be called that because the School Board and a large percentage of parents didn't like the idea of a small rural school district needing "security." What I found was that the worse offenders and those who frequently refused to accept simple security precautions were the parents. A lot of "I pay for this place I can go anywhere I want whenever I want" attitude. That was what kept us from really implementing proactive procedures.

That's another big part of the problem, the media loves this stuff because it sells. They are literally vultures hovering over dead bodies.
If only they would all come to a consensus that there coverage only motivates these animals to copycat these terrible acts. If these idiots got no coverage, there would be less of them willing to carry out their plans. And armed teachers/plain clothes guards would deter more.

I agree with what Celt said. I understand people have a right to know what happened. But I also feel that ALL this media coverage/ attention causes future problems.

Deplorable, I agree with just about everything you said here, EXCEPT that last sentence. I am not willing to talk at all about "reasonable gun control". They have only 1 goal in mind, and that is total disarmament of the American people. They could not be ANY CLEARER, just listen to what they are saying now.
Things like:
This type of thing isn't happening in other countries.
They refer to all the countries that have disarmed their citizens.
What they don't remind us about, are the other attacks that take place there, trucks driving into people at roadside cafes, multiple gunmen attacking citizens, bombs on trains, terrorists hacking people up with knives, and machetes.
Hell, for that matter, look at what happened with the idiot driving the truck down the bike path in NYC (where it is just about impossible to get a permit!!) a couple of months ago, and just driving over people. HMMM, he certainly didn't need a gun, he just improvised.
Evil people will do evil things, people on mind altering drugs will do evil things, people who do not have a grasp on reality will do evil things.
Me, I'll keep my guns thank you very much!!

At my kid's school, during school hours, vehicles entering the property via the only access driveway must show ID at a guard station. The guard is armed. Other guards on the grounds, in and around the school's campus, are also armed.

At my kids schools you have to get "buzzed in" at the entrance doors, and there is typically a county police officer parked in front of the school.
