Crashed his truck and shot at a couple people at funeral home. Police called, took a couple shots at school from outside. Roughly 12 minute window before he entered school unobstructed. I can't keep track of links.
Then it sounds like at some point when local pd responded they took fire and decided to setup perimeter and call for backup. Who knows what happened during this time, but border patrol put an end to situation at almost 90 minutes into it.
Doubt anyone will ever be scared of swat steam after this; let alone the Barney Fife locals.

I'm really not trying to cop bash, but this whole situation is unacceptable. I mean a simple fucking flashbang and gas would have ended this in seconds. This was a confused, mental 18 year old kid. Shit, he even dropped and never recovered his ammo bag. This could have been a severe massacre.
I would rather die trying to save those I could than to explain to God why I was such a pussy.

Lot of "good" cops everywhere. While I don't agree with what happened here, I along with everyone else here doesn't know, and likely never will know what really happened. I'm assuming the cops holding perimeter were following orders. Orders which in my opinion needed not to be followed, job be damned.

I started LE in 1970. There were Policewomen on the force already some for many years. Do you know what they didn't do? They didn't ride beats or answer radio calls. That changed when I started. We were "told" to treat them as equals. But when they got a call or pulled a car stop, we instinctively backed them up and were always close by. Don't kid yourself. Not that we weren't always aware of the calls and stops of the male officers, but it was definitely different for the females. The point is, Police Depts don't have the resources so they "follow" the guidelines set forth by none other than the FBI! The FBI conducts SWAT Schools for Police Officers at Quantico VA. General Orders and police rules are based on Best Practices set forth by the FBI!
The problem is those FBI agents are not cops.
As for the cops at the school, they were following the General Orders recommended by the FBI, created by the politicians, and enforced by the chief. Rules that reflect the political correctness of the current time.
I thought all active shooter guidelines now say to engage and end threat immediately, which obviously did not happen here.
I commend that officer for doing "the right thing"
It's just a shame he was able to follow through on his paternal duties and got away with it because of his profession, while all the other parents trying to do the same thing were held back at taser point, handcuffed and threatened.

Police and Soldiers are different on some levels and the same on others.
I cannot remember how many times I and other service members ran into to the fire. It is part of the job.
The amount of times, in my current profession, that I have run into a situation of danger. Nope, so far, I have not needed to run into live gun fire. I would though and so would many that I work with.
These people are an embarrassment to the profession. Period.

If found guilty every case that officer worked on can be re-tried and his testimony impeached. The cost to the state, county, city, or town would be tremendous.
It is for this exact reason that the courts ruled that Police have no duty to protect.
Failing to protect would create liability of a tremendous amount to the state, county city, or town.
This is smoke and mirrors to deflect the blame of inaction on the responding cops and not the politicians and administrators.
