I don't bow hunt, but muzzle loader every year, where I've also carried either a S&W 357 or my Walther 40. I also coyote hunt while out there and won't waste a ML shot on one.
You should read the FAQ on DEC site!

Yeah I know all about it, law says it's a no no. The local ENCON officers won't site someone for stupid shit. If you're taking game correctly they let a lot slide. There's a huge amount of coyotes around here, one officer even stated he'd look the other way if you're carrying a 9mm for coyotes during archery.
They get plenty of assholes who take deer out of season, at night, or not tagged etc. Never bother those who use the correct firearm for said season.
Just like SP, some areas have jack boot dicks and others have great officers.

It is illegal to possess a handgun when hunting with a bow/muzzleloader during the early and late special season. If you are using a bow/muzzleloader during the regular Gun season you can possess a handgun. I don’t have the dates in front of me. Hope that helps.

You can use a bow during any gun season.The "special" bow season is a season set aside for bow only."Bow only" means you can only use a bow,no firearms allowed.I dont understand what you dont understand.The idea of allowing a season for only bow is to give bow hunters a better chance at scoring a deer,the deer arent as spooked from all the cannon fire in the woods.

I think you are the one that isn't understanding what we are saying.
Nobody is saying to use a pistol to hunt with during bow season. The argument is that you can't carry a pistol for self defense while bow hunting.
Again. The pistol is for self defense during bow season. Not hunting. They are infringing on your right to defend yourself against those that wish you harm whether 2 legged or 4 legged while you legally bow hunt game.

You are using the same argument that a liberal uses when they say that concealed carriers live in a world of fear. We don't. We are prepared for what may come our way and take it upon ourselves to defend ourselves since no one else would.

They are making rules for hunting.If you feel the need to carry a handgun when you are bow hunting,then dont bow hunt,or do like most do in other places you cant carry,like hospitals,post offices etc,just keep it concealed.I understand what you are saying,and agree you should be able to carry a concealed handgun while bow hunting,but ya cant,the law says so.Laws can be changed,better to work in that direction then to gripe about it on a forum,that aint helping nothin.

Griping about them on a forum brings awareness. Many a time my opinion has changed about a particular situation or law that I was ingnorant on after reading about it on a forum.

Of course not,I have been carrying for over 35 yrs and carry all the time.But I understand there are times when its not practicle.Like at a public pool,or in the shower,so at times you are vulnerable,like crossing a street and getting run over by a bus.I dont obsess about the risks we take every day in normal life.

IDK handgun stuff, My friends all have them, But I remember back in early 90's going bow deer season hunting my friend ask DEC if he could carry a 22lr handgun during bow deer hunting because of coons always up in his fort stand. This was during a rabies time, can't remember what they told him though.

The wording in hunting you, I, we see, is a grey area.... What is on books in DEC hunting laws we don't see on line or in pamphlet is always a bit different. There was a grey area way back in early 90's late 80's Coyote hunting at night. NO centerfires at night with lights. We used them on moon lit nights with scope no lights, been pulled over, proved wording in text pamphlet, got off continued to hunt that way for years, they since changed laws at night. GREY AREA flaws...
