I agree Some not all.
It is good to know like minded people but im the end when the survival need ans instinct kicks in you will find excellent partners with the most unexpected folks. A petite female dancer can become the best of survivalists. Even a rabid liberal will forget all man made bs politics and get down to business.
We are all hardwired to survive, it is just a trade we do not use anymore so for some people will require to break down and either perish or come back stronger.
Political views will do nothing for anyone in the long run. It will help in a herd or tribe but eventually we will go back to many of the old ways.

This seems to be the case. A lot of people think they're going to lone wolf it, but it's for more efficient to have people doing specialized jobs than context switching constantly. A lot of time is lost when you switch roles, and time is survival.

I believe that I have mentioned this before. One would think that the Adirondacks would be a logical place to go to in a real SHTF... However It will be overrun by people from NY City. These folks will be jumping at their own shadow at night. Hear a raccoon at midnight and next would be a bonfire with 6 ft flames... .. Have many thousands like minded people doing the same thing in the summer and in a few weeks most everything would be on fire with no one to put it out...

But lets say, if they could do that, would their favorite holsters be made of kydex or human skin?
I think such dire circumstances are highly unlikely to occur. The true threat is an increasingly authoritarian government stepping in to lock everything and everyone down before things got to such a state.
Nevertheless if such a long-term breakdown were to occur it would be something that came about gradually enough for arrangements to be made by those paying attention.
That said, my preemptive move would be to rural Wisconsin, the land of my birth. I have a lot of family out that way and some of em have actual functional farms. And my one cousin and her husband know how to make pickles. The best goddamn pickles I have ever tasted. They gave me a big jar of em and it was gone in 3 days. Afterwards I shit my brains out. If one hasn't done so before head my warning: do not eat large quantities of pickles in a short period of time.

For me, I hate being back in a city. I would likely want to get out if things went south, but I would likely bug in first. My quickest way out of the city is east but to the east it's all mountains. I'm pretty much surrounded by big mountains and there are only a few passes (at least road passes). I could go south, but that would put me through the bulk of urban sprawl. West means I have to go through more city and then desert. North is more city and mountains. Plus if I did make it east over the mountains, I'd likely end up getting shot by some HOA asshole or mauled by a moose.

Got my well drilling permit back from the state.
And have signed a contract for a 15kw solar plant for the roof.
If things get bad here, I'm not sure where you'd want to big out *to*. There might be some better locations in the middle of Montana or something, but I think we'll be pretty good here.
Need to get a garden setup though. I'm not a fan of the "store enough food to survive forever" plan. I prefer the "store enough to allow you to time to adapt plan."

Going with a pair of sol-ark 12k inverters and a 15Kw nominal array on the roof and a modest 400Ah 48v battery bank.
It can't run everything I want, but it should be able to run enough. The dual Sol-Arks will give me a hefty surge capacity for things like AC that draw a lot of power but have a low duty cycle.
The idea is that in an extended outage I can run the AC for an hour or 2 during the day (using both solar and battery) and then have enough time for the batteries to top off again before night hits.
The house is very well insulated, and with 6" of concrete in the walls I have a lot of thermal mass to carry through till morning.
We do have a lot of windows, so I will probably pick up some sheets of foil backed foam insulation to keep on hand. If we have some entended outage during the hottest months I will just cover the windows.
We're all electric everything, so in that case we would probably need to conserve power a bit, but that just means hot showers only during the day, and dinners you can cook quickly.
Most importantly, we could keep working as long as internet is available in the area (we're on fixed wireless internet, so as long as the tower across the valley is up, we're good).
I did *not* spring the extra cash for the EMP hardened version of the Sol-Arks. Hope I don't regret that some day, but the odds on that seem pretty remote to me.
So, if we get hit with some desert version of the '92 ice storm and are cut off for a few weeks we'll be pretty comfortable.
If TEOTWAWKI hits, I doubt the batteries would survive more than a couple years, but we're still going to be better than most.
The system is designed for expansion. I can add more panels, batteries, or inverters at will.
I suspect more batteries will happen eventually. Possibly more panels as well. If I ever get to where I'm adding a 3rd inverter, then I'm basically saying "the connection to the power grid is just for emergency use"
I have binged on solar for a few years now, but haven't had the money to jump in. The only inverters on the market I would use right now would be the sol-arks so two thumbs up on that one. AC coupling a pair of 12k's is my dream setup. Like you said the system easily is expandable. I would make sure the company that does the install put a couple power bars that you can sun new batteries to in the future. I really like these batteries Leading Clean Energy Storage Provider | Lithium Battery Storage . The small units are priced right you could add one every couple years. Considering they have their own BMS's you don't have worry about balancing the whole battery system. I know your in a different state but how much roughly is it going to run you?
