Folks Many different forums have people stating they will live off the land in the wilderness when a SHTF situation starts. ... Perhaps for a few months it is possible ... But long term everything wears out and few would make it. without some kind of resupply from civilization ..
Native Americans lived off the land most of their known existence. It's possible, just not easy.
I think it's more important to have a group of people that you can trust to help each other survive.

Ill watch that vid, I do watch many of his videos. But to your point, I think anyone who has SERIOUSLY thought about long term survivql in an shtf scenario knows thats not realistic.
Unless you live in an area so remote that you wont find other humans, or that over time other humans wont find you it would be very hard to survive by only hunting and whats in a backpack.
Imo, to survive long term you need a group of at least 12 or more as you need around the clock security. You need to be able to grow your own food, prep/store it for off season, you need a well rounded group with different skills. The list for long term survival goes on and on.

For starters yes. Actual “ Long Term” you’d need many more than a doz. people. A small tribe would be much more beneficial.
I don't think finding hands would be the issue, I think find hands that weren't going to steal from you or scouts from gangs of assholes would be more of my concern.

This family did survive in the wilderness. . 30-40 years . The mother died of starvation. Things were pretty dire when they were found.

And they still had to visit a trading post every few months for supplies

In 1492 there were between 7 to 10 million Native Americans north of Rio Grande. They were distributed among 600 plus tribes and had the entire continent and its natural resources just for themselves.
Were are now the millions of heads of game that roamed the great planes including the North American Buffalo?
If many people wanted to live off the land hunting and gathering and doing bushcraft today we would have two main problems:
1 - we would not have enough land
2 - we would not have access to enough resources including fresh water, fuel and food.
Our best bet would be to go back to the systems that allows us to survive as species in tribes and villages but taking to farming and animals so we could return to sustainable yet very modest microeconomies while natural resources might get a chance of certain recovery.
It would be very hard but possible like the Amish..
These systems will come back as we consuming with no end will have to stop by depletion..
Something has to budge. Simple math.
I am not worried about the over population the vaccines are going to take care of that. They are designed to make people sterile and kill them. But yes I agree tribes is what is going to happen.
When the real bad comes, it will be a bit late to join a tribe. Try to work together to create one now.

Well, we would be back to 10 million humans living north of the Rio Grand pretty quick in that sort of world.
It's true though, the 350 million or so people we would lose would do a lot of damage in the month or so they would survive.
Most of them wouldn't make it out of the city though.
That's why you select your prey carefully.
In the wild predators target elderly, ill or otherwise infirm animals. Predators skew the odds in their favor by attacking in groups, strength in numbers or by using stealth to attack in ambush on an unaware animal. Aside from physical stealth in the human world there is also social stealth-

Enough people would make it out of densely populated areas into where the resources are to create huge problems for those who know how to find harmony and balance in those areas with those resources.
Even a small percentage we are talking millions of people and huge migrations.
Essentially we have too many humans that cannot be supported by natural ecosystems.
In certain parts of Asia ia the worse on the planet but here we have similar problems should we spread across the land.
It is a shame that so many on this forum live so far away. Some people here; it would be my honor and privilege to join up with them.

Perfect comment. We have a lot of food today, for the most part, enough for all American. Without the mega farms and the chemical induced foods and the mass processing plants, there would be so many that would just die off.
Isn't it nice to walk into a store each day and buy the food that you want?
I hear many say, I'll live off the land and shoot a deer when I need it. Cool plan. What are you going to do with the hundred pounds of meat that cannot be eaten in one sitting? Where are all of the deer you are going to live off? There are roughly 30 million white tailed deer throughout the US, how long do people think that will last?
