I just wonder...will it be an upgrade for the HB variant of the 597? I see the HB has a nickle/teflon plated sear and hammer. Did I just waste my money? Or will this hammer still be an upgrade?

My 22 magnum is also a HB about ten years old, the factory trigger wasn't bad but the VQ did improve it!

Yes. It worked great. Cycled almost all ammo when and shot fast and slow. Shot FMJ ball with no issues, seem to run slower useing FMJ flat nosed rounds and had one FTF but took them.
It really like fedreal HSTs.
For a gun out of the box to have one FTF I was surprised.
The thing is solid and smooth. Seems to aim itself at 10 yards which I think you want in this type of pistol. Conceals great under a t-shirt.
I have no complaints at all. For the price and the size it is great.

William’s is long since gone.
Carpenter’s sells Carolina work boots & LaCrosse boots. Other than that, nothing else I know of.
Just got my stripped 17 frame. "Registered" it as multi so if I want I can build .40 or .357sig

So any plans yet for your build?
For now. Just back to a stock 17 and use it for the stock division this year. Then eventually pick up a G34 slide and barrel and turn it into a G34 and then have my chopped G17 return to the well G17 lol that makes any sense
