Well, let's say it does pass and NY allows it, willingly or through coercion by the Fed's, but still keeps barrel threads illegal, there are other ways to attach a suppressor. You may even see more integral stuff hitting the market.

Because silencer is the official term in the NFA that this is supposed to undo. The very first sound suppressors were called silencers and the name stuck.

Do I need a permit to cook outdoors? The state police weren't sure. Submit your days itinerary to the local politburo, I don't think adding a noise suppressor to your gun will pass muster, now your car on the other hand, without a suppressor is a good fund raiser for our social well being, i.e., the state

There are barrel lugs that allow quick detachment for suppressors, so barrel threads aren't a huge issue. The issue is that it's not going to happen. If it did happen, which it will not, you'd never want to permanently install a suppressor. Depending on the mounting, the internal baffles need to be disassembled and cleaned eventually. All of the blowback gas and carbon collects inside overtime and they get filthy. Suppressors can be messy to shoot with. Any victory would better than not, but we need desperately to get rid of things like federal assault weapon bans and magazine restrictions. We need to repeal the entire NFA and allow FA and SBR's too, not just pick out our favorites. Compensating for illegal gun laws takes lifespans; a true victory means getting rid of every unconstitutional restriction. The hearing protection act IS a great idea logistically, but it's playing the game that they want. The proof is there, everyone in this country is born ready to own any type of firearm they fucking desire. No ifs ands or buts. It's not even a debate, how we allowed ourselves to get bent over and screwed so hard in the asshole by debating it in the first place shows what extremes the people WON'T take. We're well on our way to following great britain or australia gun control. Infact, many people have it WORSE off in this country already. If Trump doesn't take advantage and get some of this stuff through, We are literally doomed 100%.
As our rights have been violated so must their return unfortunately, bit by bit. Suppressors are the low hanging fruit.

A lot to this. I was surprised to learn that new zealand actually has a lot of suppressors. I think you just pay to buy it and that's that.
The suppressor law is another in a long line of laws created by idiots to prevent nothing; e.g. same vein as no switch blades.

There are "legal" ways to acquire suppressor-like items (and I'm speaking to function here, not appearance) and yet, you do NOT often see them used for nefarious purposes. If they WERE commonly used by criminals, that traitorous Gillibrand, her mentor and the rest of their ilk would've been shouting it from the mountain tops. Your assertion is rooted in fear and indoctrination, not reality.
Thats all fine and dandy you assume they are smart enough to build the solvent trap. Like i said there is a level of gun control needed and we have well exceeded that level. If you think you would not see the more frequent use of them by criminal if you could just send your home boy to Dicks and pick one off the self you are you need to wake up.
The level of gun control in parts of this country are so asinine cause of there restriction on everything that a truly useful gun control act would be seem as no control.
Face a gun owner I think we all have the same line of thinking keeping firearm out of the hands of criminals and mentally ill people (the dangerous one).
But in the last 20 plus years since I really started paying attention to them there hasn't been a single law that has done nothing but add restriction to legal gun owner. So to say having to get you suppressor from a FFL and a nics check is to restrictive it a improvement and will keep them from the hand of criminals.

Suppressed gunfire is still loud unless you go through the trouble to use subs. Hell, most commercial rifle suppressors aren't even truly hearing safe without subs.
So what if all the criminals DO go buy them? What difference do you think it'll make? Any criminal that actually cares about how loud his gun is can already suppress it if they really want to. The thing is, they don't care enough to hang a suppressor off the end and stuff it in their waistband.
