Ukraine and Russia should be natural allies.

Ukraine should be aligned with Russia. Ukraine has always been aligned with Russia. The west pulled off a silent coup and got their puppet government installed to change the sphere of influence and then Ukraine wants to join NATO. Russia clearly and justifiably has a problem with this for obvious reasons. Is it right ? That's debatable. However to say the west didn't specifically goad this fight on for the sole purpose of using Ukrainian blood and American treasure to pump up the military industrial complex in never ending wars to theoretically bleed and weaken the Russians indefinitely to keep them down. Yes I think that was their plan. They are short sighted psychotic maniacs who care more about their pocket books, stock prices, power and globalism than What is actually good for the world and civilization. Never ending wars are great when your domestic government is incompetent and failing. Keep the people distracted. We've always been at war with Eurasia.

The irony is China actually is and we could have had Russia in our court to counter china and keep them in balance but that's clearly not going to happen anymore. There is absolutely no reason for Russia to be invading Ukraine except that the west created a reason.

The world is a much much safer place than it's ever been *because* many countries don't think they need a massive military to defend themselves.

Once you have that defensive military, there is always a temptation to use is for offensive gains. Many countries are just one charismatic leader away from becoming tyrants. In lots of places a strong military would be very tempted to take over the civilian government if it thinks it isn't "doing things right". Best not to hand them a fully armed military if they don’t want one.

I don't really trust *our* government with the military we have, it's a necessary evil because the risk of not having it is so great. But the fewer countries that have a strong military, the better off we are.

Many here have been warning of exactly this or a very similar situation occurring. It was inevitable.

Now the next most likely thing to anticipate, if I was Russia without hesitation the next time an American drone is running recon over the Black Sea it's getting splashed. This is where the ISR comes from. IMO Russia would be justified in defending themselves by shooting down our drones.

A few points why I think @holdover had a good take,

NK has by many estimates anywhere from 30-50 nuclear warheads. And potentially more because no one really knows.

NK has a million man army that has been toughened up eating grass and dirt for half their lives living in squalor and pledging total loyalty to their death to dear leader while South Korea is so pampered and is very effeminate and can't even have enough sex to not have population loss. The south has a clear technology advantage but I think there are some intangibles here. Especially if the north starts getting some technological assistance from Russia which is very likely.


The US has given Ukraine priority for ALL new Patriot missiles to be delivered to. No orders are going to any other country even if they ordered them before.
Israel will very likely deplete their iron dome reserves (when) Hezbollah attacks and will likely resort to some very harsh tactics when that occurs.

I don't think it's out of the realm of possibility that all these separate hotzones around the world flare up near simultaneously as the local belligerents decide now is the time to act while the west is preoccupied elsewhere and spread too thin especially before the US election. It's certainly possible. Nothing happens in a vacuum.
