Better missile technology ? Seriously ? Both sides have had adequate missile technology since the 70s. What's better about it ?

More nukes ? Well, maybe if you count every rusting hull, but nukes need regular maintenance if you expect them to go boom. Don't replace the tritium every few years and they're just an extra messy conventional explosive. You may believe they're doing that for thousands of warheads, but I seriously doubt they have the budget.

As for "winning" a nuclear war, there is no such thing. The best you can possibly manage would be surviving one without your entire civilization collapsing. That is completely impossible for the Russians, and unlikely for us.

Recently watched the miniseries Chernobyl. Well worth the time to watch, IMO. 650,000 people mobilized many knowingly irradiated themselves to fight the accident.

My take away is that Russia is best equipped to protect its population from the after effects of a nuclear exchange.

Nuclear war asshole! Many people die. Again my opinion is that in the long run fewer Russian will perish due to experience gained at Chernobyl.

The only other country best prepared would be Japan.

So, your argument is that because the Soviet Union caused the largest nuclear accident in history by incompetently handling a nuclear reactor, then badly mismanaged the response and just threw bodies at the problem in suicide waves, *that* means they are better prepared to handle a nuclear war ?


First off, nuclear war is *nothing* like a reactor meltdown. About the only thing they have in common is some radiation is involved.

Even smaller and old buildings had deep basements which were subdivided for storage use, these could be used in a pinch. Moscow and St. Petersburg have extensive and very deep subway system, which were already used as bomb shelters in WWII. This in addition to numerous underground tunnels like we seen in Mariupol.

Back then things were a heck of a lot different. People had more respect for one another. You see someone having problems with something, you'd stop and help them. You'd ask questions, etc. You'd offer.

Now a days, people will ignore you if you are having convulsions on the ground. They don't feel it's their job to help, and they just don't care. It's someone else's job.

Along with the fact that people are not self-reliant nor are they pro-active. They think technology will save them.

The USA is not what it was decades ago.

So yes, the collapse of civilization and supply chains will be the contributing factor of many people's demise, both directly and indirectly.

To be honest, I'm not worried about the nuclear incident itself, I'm worried about when my own neighbors terrorize me, and try to steal from me because of the collapse because they can't be self-reliant.

They may have announced they are working on it, but the concept is fatally flawed.

A tsunami requires several orders of magnitude more energy than even the largest nukes can provide.

At best you could generate a large wave in a single harbor, and it's unlikely to do more than superficial damage there.

The nuke would be far more destructive as an airburst over the same harbor.
