Since you don't likely have that in your present household you will either a) die, or b) form a security team. For many this will entail recruiting neighbors. Many of these neighbors will have little to no tactical firearms. If you are well stocked with ammo and proper firearms then you have the tools to form that minimum security team Lovell describes. Pro gun states do not have nearly this same need because so many more citizens are already armed. Not the case here in NY.

I was thinking, in some respects I wonder if us on this forum in NY wouldn't be at a significant advantage living here than say another state.

What I mean is that gun ownership in many ways is really not "socially ok" for many in this state and gun ownership here can be very difficult. That we are most likely significantly more armed than the average ny citizen that we would be able to defend ourselves and would not be easy targets or a predators first choice .

There are literally millions of people in this state who are defenseless.

All the anti-gun bullies and liberal SJW types would be so screwed.

This is my view, especially down here in the city. The bulk of gun ownership is cops and most only have 1-2 guns and NO ammo reserves. There's very, very few people near me as well armed and stocked with ammo. I could drive from my house to my kids house literally killing every person I encounter if I had to, without question.

All everyone talks about in cities is, "How are we going to get out?" Reality for me is that I'd likely be here, so staying is my best option while all the idiots flee.

Pondering these matters with my real situation in mind, there's no real good answers. I'm frequently away from my kids. If an "event" happens suddenly, I'm going to them from wherever I am, at whatever risk that presents because without them, I don't care to survive anyway. Should I arrive and find them dead or gone, I'm basically going to become a psychopath killer until someone else kills me.

Should I get them safely, reality becomes movement with 3 kids is far more dangerous than staying put wherever you are, in my case, the city. So it is what it is.

Another reality is that there is not 1 perfect answer/plan. You have to be smart, prepared, and ready to adapt based on the scenario, the size of your group, and surrounding groups.

I know for a fact that not very many people by me are prepared. There is a cop, an EMT, and a former Marine. There could be more but I'm not sure. Whether they are prepared, I'm not sure as well.

My plan is to stay put too. I won't be outfitting my neighbors with guns, ammo and food. They didn't prepare so they are on their own. Plus I wouldn't want them to turn on me and try to take my remaining food with the guns I gave them. Between me and the wife, we can do 5 hours on 5 hours off until we find like-minded good people. We have enough to hole up in the condo for months except for trips to the river for water.

I live in a suburb South of buffalo about 1 mile away from lake Erie. So on the bright side I have an unlimited supply of freshwater and fishing (unlike game, no way does lake Erie get fished out from a bunch of knuckleheads shore fishing) All the other local small ponds would be over fished, but I can at least fish in lake Erie after all the game is killed and fish are taken from small pomds.

I've been talking to more and more of my neighbors and I've never brought up the topic of "prepping" with them because I don't want to show my cards, but I'm becoming pleasantly surprised. I've learned some interesting things. There are multiple veterans and LEO in my neighborhood, many of my neighbors are into gardening, many hunt, far more than I realize own guns. My wife was just talking to one of her friends and she told my wife she wants to start going through the process to get a pistol (and she's a Sunday school teacher too lol) another neighbor has a small home made greenhouse and chickens in his backyard etc...

I'm somewhat optimistic that I have enough solid people who would do the right thing around me to where we could band together on a very local neighborhood level to try and set up a functioning community. It seems I have enough reliable people with guns, who hunt and fish or garden and veterans and LEO that hopefully we could get out shit together. Im sure I'm being overly optimistic and we will all starve to death or die of disease but I feel better off now with my own preparations and getting to know my neighbors better than I would have felt 2 or 3 years ago.

I would like to think that they would behave reasonably like the town of black mountain in one second after or Morgan's neighborhood in the going home series.

Hopefully i never have to find out if they will kill me for a bag of rice....
