Well I guess if I am "bugging out" I am out of food because I ran out of ammo and it is no longer safe to say here in the woods. 2 F150 4x4s and a 1954 Tea-20 Massey Ferguson and about 400 gallons of gas to run them all..... Oh I won't run out of ammo...... or fuel oil either..... or wood....... or food....... Hell we're staying here!

My well broken in danner hiking boots. I'm not going anywhere but the families back 40. I used to walk (not run) marathons (Boston mainly) to raise money for childhood cancer treatment and research. A light pack and the 20 miles to my family property is the only place I would go (preferably at night). If you are in decent shape it can be done quicker than many think and it's nice and quiet. If the forester is working I would take that. I'm not worried about EMP's so I think it will be working fine. It's pretty good for light off road and it gets decent mileage.

Enduro/dual sport. No modern fuel injection, just a carburetor. Kick start only, has a battery, but doesn't need one. Any terrain, carries ammo, food, guns, tent etc. 72 miles per gallon.

Just got myself a 2016 Jeep Grand Cherokee with the V8 and offroad adventure pack II, which translates to skid plates and air suspension that can give me an additional 3-4 inches of clearance if required. So far, loving it. V8 gets 20-22mpg on the highway too.

If you go to the govplanet site, you can look under 2.5 ton trucks, you'd be surprised how cheap you can get into a Deuce
M35A3's got the engine replaced with a Cat and Allison automatic. I keep looking at them lol.

On the subject of diesels and M35's, I've seen a few somewhat locally in the $4000 range, running, driving, and even licensed now. And then got looking into biodiesel. Pretty easy to have a really cheap source of fuel that they'll run on. You don't know how close I am to putting my GMC up for sale. I love my truck but I need something more capable anyway, mine is too light for hauling my firewood and it's only 2 wheel drive. It's not really a daily driver so....hmmmmm...

My bug out vehicle will be whatever SUV or pickup i have at the time. It will sit in my driveway because there is nowhere to go that's any better. It's my belief that those who head to the hills will eventually starve to death up there. My little town is in the middle potato country, so i probably wont starve.

Seems like the nicer set up you have the more chance for theft and harassment. The first roadblock could be your last. Probably best to blend in with your everyday vehicle and be smart about where you drive.

EMP from solar flares is probably the most likely scenario, perhaps not a permanent SHTF situation but it could still be a challenging few weeks.

For the money I rather put more into my home than car. Not only are you building equity in case SHTF never happens but you're a lot more likely never to leave the house if something really did happen.

In a true end of the world zombie apocalypse, nuclear fallout, plague/epidemic etc.. what good would any vehicle do you. Chances are the roads would be choked up and impassable. Off roadings not really gonna get you far anywhere in the north country with all the trees/mountains. Seems like a dirt bike would be only real useful vehicle to travel with but that would have a lot of downsides.

My 4wd Frontier actually did pretty decent on the "roads" in CO. Go slow and plan your route. It's got the short bed, but I could add a trailer or cargo carrier to the hitch and it would be serviceable. All it needs to go is about 45 minutes. Load up the guns, ammo, clothes, and a crap ton of food.
