No, I'm thinking there will be a huge line for new permits . Think of the number of people in NYC alone that can apply now. Think of the resources it will take to do the criminal, mental, reference checks on a few hundred thousand people.
That is what I did as well. I visited a brother down in Texas and we went to a range. I tried out a number of pistols and rifles. I was originally thinking about a Beretta but at the range it was a little too big for my hands. I ultimately went with the Glock 19 as my first. Have fun!

Rest assured heading out day 1 with a firearm believing I am now John Wick isn't going to happen. From the outset, way back in the beginning of this the plan all along has been my intention to rent several handguns with a trained instructor to learn and see what I shoot best. Then make the purchase. Then recieve further training. Then practice consistently. Then take a live fire defensive training class ( if available locally).......and then carry regularly. This is flexible, but prudent.
My understanding is that NYS prohibits any firearms liability insurance to operate within the state. Wonder why......not.

That is exactly thier reasoning. They have endless funds ( ours) so it wouldn't be a fair fight. Liability insurance would somewhat level the playing field, and that goes against the politics of the state. That is all prefaced on the actual statistical chance being minimal that you will be involved in a self defense situation, but we try to mitigate our risks daily with fire extinguishers, auto and home owners insurance, renters insurance, smoke/co 2 detectors ECT. Many of which are mandatory by state laws. I'm not in any way shape or form saying liability insurance for a firearm should be mandated, but owners should be allowed the option to have it if they so choose.
I believe the application is from NYS, it's just processed by the counties. So they're the same for everyone. Restrictions are put on by judges in certain counties. Monroe is not one of them.
