why cant i just download a Pistol Permit pdf like i can from DMV for my car or truck or boat .. and fill out and print and take

Seems like an applicant’s chances of “winning” a NYS pistol permit are worse than winning the Publishers’ Clearing House Sweepstakes.

So, called the clerk today to get an update. Had a brief conversation before getting my answer, thought it appropriate to share. Clerk stated that over 3K permit applications were submitted in Monroe county in 2021. So far this year it has surpassed 2K applications and it only being July, this year will by far out due last year.

Clerk stated they are currently processing permits granted by the judges from June 14th. My letter of approval was signed June 16th. I should be receiving my card sometime next week per the clerk and most likely past the 300 day mark. Once received the entire timeline will be finally posted at last.

A day early but already known, 300 days, no permit in the mail ( for tomorrow, know with usps app). As predicted, no permit before 300 days. On to 307, most likely longer.

My brother just made an appointment to submit his application for Monroe County. Appt date is 8/26/22. Sneaking in just before the cutoff. We hope.

I agree with @irick above. Check the clerks office appointment site regularly as he could move up. But even if they follow the old rules regarding permit applications, the fact that they batch process all applications, that being the old way and those with the new requirements mixed together, and those of the new requirements will take a LOT LONGER, I wouldn't expect to hear back for well beyond a year, closer to the current 18 month wait, if not longer unfortunately.

I assume he scheduled through the county's website. People cancel their appointments frequently and new slots become available. It worked that way for me amending my permit. You might want to tell him to keep checking the scheduling page to see if anything pops up sooner.

I think there are earlier appts available. He’s finishing up his reference forms currently.

References were contacted 194 days later, Thursday, April 7th, 2022 @ 10:37 AM, or 194 days, 20 hours and zero minutes.

Letter of Approval recieved 270 days from application date, June 21st, 2022 @ 5:21 pm, or 270 days, 2 hours and 44 minutes after application.

Actual permit received in mail Thursday, July 21st, 2022 @ 4:02 PM.
Total time from application to card received-
300 days, 1 hour, 25 minutes.

So, 42 weeks, rounded down or just over 82% of a common year.

Been a long road. Hope this helps someone in the future calculate thier projected date to receive a suburban pistol permit in Monroe County.

It's over boys, finally. Time to go shooting.

EDIT-including mailing in an amendment to add a new pistol to my permit, the total time from application to firearm ownership for a handgun was 314 days or nearly 45 weeks, just over 86% of a common year.

I believe so. I've never encountered a permit holder in Monroe who has restrictions

Went the following day , Sunday, hunting for it. Found the only one available on Sunday between Rochester and Batavia at Runnings of Brockport. Paid in full. Now awaiting the amendment to pick it up. Another thread begins, Monroe County pistol permit amendment time via mail.

I'm curious to hear how long doing it via mail takes because I was going to try amending via mail, but I was able to purchase a CZ online, have it shipped to my FFL, and be at the range shooting it in under a week by snagging an amendment appointment cancellation that opened up.

That's awesome. You bought from TFP right? Did you take the opportunity to try it out on their range when you picked it up? Congrats!

Yes and no. Yes I tried it out at TFP before I bought it. Did a side by side against an HKVP9SK, the one I originally wanted but the Walther on thier just felt better. No in that I found a smoking deal at Runnings in Brockport I couldn't pass up ( nearly 150 off other retailers price) so I purchased it there.

A friend just got his permit here in Madison County. Took 6 weeks after turning in his paper work. His daughter is at 8 weeks and counting because at least one of her references failed to complete the she's good person paperwork and mail it back to the sherriff's office.
She's too cute to have a beard so I'm hoping she gets the okay soon.
