So can anyone that tried to buy ammo tell us their first hand experience trying to buy yesterday and with system down.

I did some calculations. If I bought ammo on average a couple dozen times a year, thats 60 bucks in the NY fee. Then the average of 10 min wait equates to about 4hrs of my life (assuming no delays, denials). I can shoot down to PA and back in same amount of time. The cost in gas would be cheaper too (also factoring in sales tax savings).
So background check nonsense aside, for those that purchase ammo frequently, it is cheaper and more timely to go out of state and get ammo. Thanks NY.

I was tempted to do the same. What did you put for serial number on the ammo? I am not sure about the alias name part. Not sure if that would include maiden name. And it has been 42 years since I used it.
I agree, it is disgusting!
Has anyone gone to a big box for ammo? Do they have a form cause there is not one anywhere that I can find. I am thinking it is log the info as it is still required and go from there. Asking the additional questions about military, name etc.

Our local gun club forwarded the members a copy of the form that ammo buyers are being asked to fill out.
Ironically, while NYS is replacing NICS for the background check, the form requests that you include a NICS UPIN number if you have one.

It's been 10 years since this system was mandated, and no one has setup the phone system? In the private sector, people would have been fired after a few weeks of missing a deadline.

I tried for about 45 min to do a ammo bgc, lots of glitches. I fianlly went to Incognito on Chrome and got it done. I did not put my maiden name in, sorry, I have to think about what it even is now, 42 years is a long time.
Had to put in Social Security number, not optional.

I tracked down the NYS NICS Hotline Headquarters. I took a picture of the place. I'm guessing you'll be on hold for awhile to get approval.

Thanks for the update. Sounds like there’s a bit of a hurdle to jump over on the FFL’s side, but it’s possible to complete a sale with an approval. I’m willing to bet $5 there will be changes and other obstacles in the first few months. The annoyance, oppression, overreach and infringements will last well beyond that, I have no doubt. Ugh.

Use NYSNICS@NYS.gov if you want. It won’t matter. They’ll still have your SSN, ph, address, d.o.b. and short & curlies.

I saw a comment on Reddit where a FFL bought a box of .22 before he opened the shop for the day to see how the process would go. He wound up delayed 4 hours, and ultimately was denied. An FFL was denied to buy a box of .22. Let that sink in.

Can you link that here? I saw that JJ’s Armory, LLC had that same initial scenario on a Reddit sub, but he was ultimately approved after 4 hrs.

As of 330 today I’m still delayed.. I put in the check at at 754 pm last night..
What a joke , I’m a licensed FFL dealer with my state dealers license and I’ve had my pistol permit for over 30 years but I’m delayed to buy 1 box of 9mm..

Thats probably part of the plan. Keep delaying and denying. NICS can say yes but the NYSP can tell us no. Is there a way to appeal a denial by the NYSP?
