I use to buy the starter plants but after coming away with 1 flat of plants that cost me $80 I decided to buy the equipment to start my own. It cost about $120 in equipment to start it in the basement. IDK how much electricity it uses though.

Do you start it from direct sow seeds? If so does that work well for you?

That stuff is good stuff. We use it on our evaporators. The stuff can leave you a little itchy so guard for that. Also if your using it around wood products I would recommend protecting it with some fire bricks and high temp. mortar.
