came home empty handed. 2 days of nothing.

i almost hit 3 deer on my way back home, 1 running across highway, [had to slam the brakes]

2 were simply standing in the middle of the road and wont move. had to honk, to get them going.

seems like they were mocking me

I fish and game club from a nearby town own a parcel of land across the street from me. I often see deer along the road on busy November weekends. The deer are driven out by the hunters.

We have about six people hunting 300 acres here in Northern Madison County and it's by far the worst season I can remember for deer sightings. A few small bucks have been given the pass and one doe was taken from our crew. At this point we're all hunting a just average 6 pointer for the thrill. He is the only decent deer showing up on the cameras. Talking to other property owners and hunters in my area seem to all have the same results,, no good numbers of deer this year.

Yup we have almost 500 acres that we hunt in the Morrisville region. It's unusual for us not to kill a buck on opening day let alone this far in to season. With that said the doe harvest has been pretty crappy also. Me I took off all of last week to hunt. I have hunted harder than I usually do and haven't had any luck. I'm not even seeing deer. I took one rushed shot and wounded a doe. I haven't wounded a deer since I was a kid, I'm pretty ashamed at myself. With that said I took a bad shot through the brush quartering to me and not taking the proper time to let the rifle settle.

At this point most of the neighbors got the shooter bucks so I'm just hoping to get some good does and fill the freezers.

I am wondering how far that haemoraggic (sp) disease has spread.

I am starting to see a few deer come back here and there but nothing i am willing to shoot. I'm glad my freezer is already otherwise full and I dont "have to" take a deer but I should would like to.

A friend of mine who butchers deer just closed up his shop. Not because of no deer. Too many. Mid week he had 20 deer hanging in the shop plus 5 more in the cooler.

The last time I was out I heard a lot of gun shots. All I could think of in my head was that everyone of those guys got a deer but me.

I don't remember the thread, maybe it was this one, but last year didn't someone post a tip regarding the usage of tags during the last late bowhunting season? I thought it had something to do with unused regular and early bow season tags? Hoping for someone to chime in and / or link to where this info might be posted.

Yeah tell me about it. The mountain over there were 8 shots and 4 were in rapid succession then two and two. There’s no way those were all hits.

You're not putting enough lead in the air. Sometimes I get lucky and the deer walk into one.

I think I’d have taken the descent 6 at this point. If you truly just grazed the other deer it will likely live

It alive and well my oldest son who was in a stand 100yrds away saw him this morning but didn’t have a shot. I have meat in the freezer so holding out isn’t gonna cost me my ven brauts

didnt see any thing. just a few birds, i was so bored and started naming those birds.

going to switch to a new location in the afternoon.
took a lunch break. its nice to be able to walk into the house from backyard.

morning spot was not good. i switched in the afternoon, i scouted that spot. there were lots of deer trails in that area and saw lots of fresh deer scat.
unfortunately today there were a lots of hunters. i counted a total of 9 passed in front of me. discouraging, but its public land.

i just stuck around the same spot, at around 4:45 i finally saw a deer, it was almost dark, i was excited, it was about 200 yards away, i got it scoped in, but it was a doe and i didnt have antlerless tag

Just a heads up, kenny killer,if you shoot a deer at 4:45 dont put that time on your tag

PA hunting hours are half hour before and after sunrise/sunset [5:05 PM].
even if i had a tag, i wouldn't have been able to take it, as first week of rifle is antlered only week with conditions.

Have turkeys roosting out back, hear them every night. Think I may use a turkey in distress call tonight and see if I can get a coyote into the yard as I relax with some coffee on my deck.

BTDT. Quite a few years ago, last day of ML season, hadn't seen anything all big game season. Till late closing day. 15' in a pine tree a small spike walked under it. Told him to get lost, he looked around confused. Told him again a bit louder, he wandered back and forth under the tree, gave a last warning and still looked confused so figured he needed to be culled from the gene pool. Reached down with my ML and drove him to the ground.
At least he was good eating.

I saw 4 doe at 9:15am this morning and had one by herself 60 yards out lined up a shot and I freaking missed. For some reason i closed my eyes before I shot. I’m pissed at myself. I know I closed my eyes because I didn’t see them as I missed them and they ran away. No blood so it was a clean miss so clear conscience in that regard.
Would have been my first deer ever.

Buck fever happens with does too.Sucks, but its just part of hunting, happens to everyone at some time until you get a few under your belt.Dont let it get you down.

Yeah I’m a bit down. I appreciate it. I hunted pretty hard this year and wanted some bounty. I just got into hunting hard this year. I started hunting again about 2 years ago and never really took it serious until this year. I’m heading out Friday and Saturday. I went back to that spot and saw really fresh prints so I’m heading to that spot next week. The part of the road was so tore up by turkey tracks, scratching, and deer tracks it wasn’t even funny.
