Ammo background checks to begin mid-September?

What’s the no-gun database? As in like you’re a prohibited person and you can’t own a gun? If so shouldn’t they already have that if they are so, so good as they claim?
I would imagine if you do an ammo background check and you’re a prohibited person you would get a visit from the grey shirt purple tie folks.

The question is what will they do with this and what’s their next move? I personally think their next move is to ban semi auto rifles in 5 years or so but that’s just me. I will not get the endorsement and I will not buy ammo in NYS.

Today I did have one ammo check pass. The others are delayed. Gotta love it.

It's not going to end with the new NYSP/NICS background checks. Just like it didn't end with the NY Unsafe Act. And I'm pretty sure that all of you NYGF members know that. Next up, is the no transportation of ammo across state lines and no semi-autos too.

I respect 99% of the members here on this forum and we're going to each have our different tolerances for unconstitutional bullshit that we are willing to deal with. And I totally get that. But I have to say, that constantly playing by their rules will certainly be our doom. Look where it's gotten us thus far.

I don't know what to say anymore. I'm not a native of New York and I can definitely see a difference in what people are willing to tolerate between a free state and a state like New York State.

I was born and raised in South Carolina and I lived in Arizona for three years before I came to New York. I have personally lived and seen that there is a big difference in an overall citizen's thought pattern between different regions of our country. And that's why, oh fuck it why do I bother anymore.

I just need to get the fuck out of commie New York.

At this point, I do not think that in general New York gun owners have a line in the sand. The term pussy whipped comes to mind. I will never ever go through a BGC to simply buy ammo, no fucking way. I'm not playing along, there are other legal options to be used, for now.



I really need to go back to where I came from. It's time, it's beyond time.

Said the same thing. Remember the big rally in Albany when the Safe Act was passed? Not one thing changed. NY is done, you have zero chance at winning. You have two options, live with it or move. Also, republicans are not your friends. They voted for funding the Safe Act so you should not hold any trust in them when in comes to the second amendment.

I'm sure it will work just like the no-fly list. You'll get on it for saying something mean on the internet and you wont find out until you go to board a plane. Then, you wont be told why your on it and have no way to appeal or get your name removed.

I'm actually wondering how the state will get more out of a background check than what a NICS check would give. As I understand it, they still go through the FBI. If the relevant sources do not give the FBI information (hint hint- just like about every mass shooting suspect has been "watched" but not reported.), why does the state think that they would get that information? If they do give that information to the FBI, than a NICS check would work, and the person would be denied.

I can tell yah this, no such thing exists on I-81 into Broome county.


There are a lot of back roads and back ways too. It would be impossible for them to have every back road checked. They literally don't have the man power.

They need probable cause to stop and search. Just seeing ammo isn’t illegal so no reason to stop and search. Drive legally and you will be fine.

About which part? A friend went to PA yesterday and could buy all the ammo he wanted but not one of the gun shops would sell him a long gun. So yes, I'd say I'm sure because I got first hand info from a very reliable source.

Doesn’t mean it’s a law. Also what long guns was he trying to buy? Legally speaking you can purchase a long gun not in your home state of its legal in your home state. An FFL can refuse to sell a gun to anyone at anytime so your first hand knowledge means nothing legally speaking. They can sell you any long gun as long as it’s not semi auto or an assault weapon. Semi auto is fine if you have the endorsement and not an AW.

If you think there is some logical useful reason why NYS has become a NICS proxy you're missing the purpose and intent. The purpose I believe, is to make it more difficult and annoying for legal gun owners to purchase ammunition. And as a fringe benefit, if you do concede they get you bubbled up into an "active ammunition buyer" database AND a sweet tax to boot.

Was he given an explanation as to why they wouldn’t sell it to him or was he just told flat out no he couldn’t buy it? I’m not disputing you , just very curious as to why they refused to sell him a lever gun. If anything , out of state FFL’s should be helping to stand up to this tyranny.
