This one is 23 1/2 inside, 5 1/2 year old deer. Even in the semi sneek with the ears pinned back it doesn't look that wide. Like Robin said, young deer probably 2 1/2, no where near 20".

For scale, the wall he was standing next to is 20" high at the end. I'm going to take Friday off. Wife told me he was acting like he's young, she took the pic through the windshield of her car as she was pulling up, and he wound up mulling around the backyard for nearly an hour afterward (and there were a whole bunch of does out all around too).
My firewood shed is 14 yards to the right of his right shoulder in the picture. You know where to find me Friday afternoon.

I'm going to stick w/20" inside spread, not tip to tip, inside at the widest point. I figure ears 16" wide, looks like HIS left antler is 2" outside the ear. I can't see HIS right ear well enough so I'll say 2" as well. (16 + 2 + 2 ) In any case he appears to be young well nourished deer with good minerals in his diet.

On the wall. Ears 16", inside spread 15.5. He's a bit dusty too... I still believe the buck in the pic posted by BDinPutnam is substantially bigger than this.

He impaled himself on a fence (my kids’ school no less), got off, ran into the street and got hit. We tried to contain him in the school yard but her got out. Died on a front lawn down the block. I called the ranger and he said he was busy so just take it. Score!

My dads a cop too and they had a deer that broke through the ice by me and would die die to hypothermia. The local cops called the DEC and the DEC rep would not dispatch the deer even though they said it would die. So the firemen saved the deer and put human lives at risk and the local cops had to shoot it in front of everyone that was cheering for the firemen. My dad was pissed. I’d have refused to shoot it. Let the DEC do it.

It’s not our decision anyway. I had to get approval to take it. It’s crazy, we can’t even shoot them to put them down.
I have a great video of this one running around AFTER he had impaled himself and ripped himself off of the fence. It’s crazy how much pain they can endure.
