Pretty much the same story for the afternoon hunt. Saw a hind and tail......and then magically disappeared.
I went out cold, snowy, and windy. Foot prints all over then they must have bed down and no movement. 3:30 I’m heading out and there are 4 deer in the field a cross the street. 3 doenand a long spike. No shot since I can’t hunt on his property. Saw 4 greys and a red squirrl. Buddy saw 2 rabbits and a couple of squirrels too.Went out this morning. Shots all around. I saw a Cardinal.
One shot today a long way off.Went out this morning. Shots all around. I saw a Cardinal.
Good thing, he is smaller than my dog!!no meat ruined there...
Or if it still has a binky in its mouth.Sometimes it is tough to judge the size of a deer if it is alone. You can usually get an idea by size and shape of the head.
Do you hunt in Erie county? If so where if it’s public.Saw a small herd of 7-8 doe come up behind me. Couldn't get the clean shot before they turned and went off in the other direction.
I knew this deer was not huge but I didnt know it was only 80ish pounds.Sometimes it is tough to judge the size of a deer if it is alone. You can usually get an idea by size and shape of the head.
By the time you deboned the deer and process them and share it with family and friends I goes really fast.
Erie county yes. Public, no. My back yard.Do you hunt in Erie county? If so where if it’s public.
Have one already if I’m going to break my back on a drag it’s gotta be a rack worthy of taxidermist I’m getting picky in my older years and the meat comes easy from a ladder stand 200 feet from my back doorWould of made a nice tanned hide for the gun room
Im not "allowed" to shoot yard deer.Have one already if I’m going to break my back on a drag it’s gotta be a rack worthy of taxidermist I’m getting picky in my older years and the meat comes easy from a ladder stand 200 feet from my back door
Thats at 50 yards with a shotgun.Damn, headshot!
I went out yesterday morning, didn't see shit. Sat out until 9:30 and walked back. Glad I got one this year though, got about 20lbs of burger, some steaks/sandwich meat, and 7lbs of jerky. Freezer filled for another year, can't complain.
Technically I’m in the woods but yea it’s in my back yard. My wife would shoot them out of the kitchen windows if I let her... she’s troubleIm not "allowed" to shoot yard deer.
We have a herd that hangs out in the field and apple trees around our house.
They are pretty tame and graze within 20 yards of us. They are like suburban deer in the cities. They even let their babies near us.
In all honesty, if she hadn't had a yearling with her she'd be freezer meat. We have a lot of deer that hang around on this property but not one with a male package.Good call on not shooting the doe in your back yard,A majestic animal to watch in a natural setting.

Anyone hunting muzzle loader this year?
