I went out cold, snowy, and windy. Foot prints all over then they must have bed down and no movement. 3:30 I’m heading out and there are 4 deer in the field a cross the street. 3 doenand a long spike. No shot since I can’t hunt on his property. Saw 4 greys and a red squirrl. Buddy saw 2 rabbits and a couple of squirrels too.
Cardinals are my favorite bird. I love them.

Sometimes it is tough to judge the size of a deer if it is alone. You can usually get an idea by size and shape of the head.

Almost took a cool looking piebald doe yesterday morning on a drive we were doing but the drag out would have sucked so I passed. She literally ran up a ravine right to me and stayed within 30 yards for almost 10 min. Tempting fate she was

Saw a small herd of 7-8 doe come up behind me. Couldn't get the clean shot before they turned and went off in the other direction.

I knew this deer was not huge but I didnt know it was only 80ish pounds.
He will be tasty though.
With my 150ish pound 8 point and 120ish pound doe, this little deer will fill the freezer nice.
Im not being greedy, we do not buy meat so we only eat what we grow or hunt.
Im doing 50lbs of Italian sausage, 15lbs of snack sticks(Slim Jims) and 20lbs of Jerky for Christmas gifts for family and friends.
Its kind of become a thing, these people crave venison.

By the time you deboned the deer and process them and share it with family and friends I goes really fast.
And for when you dont shoot enough deer for christmas cheer,always the sausage gift baskets at walmart for $15.

We have a herd that hangs out in the field and apple trees around our house.
They are pretty tame and graze within 20 yards of us. They are like suburban deer in the cities. They even let their babies near us.

I went out yesterday morning, didn't see shit. Sat out until 9:30 and walked back. Glad I got one this year though, got about 20lbs of burger, some steaks/sandwich meat, and 7lbs of jerky. Freezer filled for another year, can't complain.

Full disclosure........
I had him broad side and took a shot.
He didnt even twitch, just stood still.
I racked the shotgun again and he started walking. He still had no clue he was in danger.
The second shot he was standing behind a log staring right at me.
The only shot was straight on head shot.
I have no idea what happened on the first shot. It should have hit.
Im going to blame the ammo.

In all honesty, if she hadn't had a yearling with her she'd be freezer meat. We have a lot of deer that hang around on this property but not one with a male package.
Anyone hunting muzzle loader this year?

Yep, need to get some meat. Of the 5 guys I regularly hunt with, only one has killed anything. Except that one crazy morning at the end of bow, I haven't even seen a buck. Worst year ever for us by a long shot.
