My AR finally got first blood today. Small doe about 120yds. Can't remember if they are 75 or 77g SP. Walking between trees till I seen an opening big enough. Catastrophic system failure.

Was up at camp for opening day, just got back an hour or so ago. Only saw doe, no doe tags and antler restrictions in that area. Will try and get my supply of meat around home over the next week or so.

Just as I suspected.
I finally got a minute to post when the site was still up.
Opening day I saw a ton of deer.
Sadly i missed a pretty nice one. I was thinking about taking a large doe and was watching her through the scope debating if i wanted to take a doe on opening morning. Then her head pops up and she looks behind her. I looked out of the corner of my eye and saw him. When I swung the gun he saw me. Well I took the shot and missed and took a quick follow up. I was pretty pissed I actually cant remember the last time I didnt get a deer I shot at.
Shortly after that my father shoots a doe and he wanted help getting her off the hill. So as we are dragging it off the hill dad takes over dragging her and tells me to peak over the ridge. Sure as shit there are 4 down there. I pick the largest one and touch off a shot and miss again. They couldn't tell where the shot came from so I what until I get another opportunity and finally make a good shot. I dont know what's going on I verified zero the weekend before so I know me.
I will say my hand loaded Sierra game kings absolutely devastate a heart. I was surprised she ran at all after seeing the devestation.
That afternoon I saw a pile of deer. I thought they were being chased by a buck but they were being pushed by the neighbor. I wish i had realized that was what was going on or i would have shot another big doe. After that all calmed down i had a small 6 come within bow range. If I had my pistol on me would have taken him. Here's a picture of him after he passed by me.

Took this critter this morning at 7:52. Nice 8, dressed at 162 lbs. .243 RCBS with 100 gr. Nosler Partitions at about 85 yds. While I am not a trophy hunter I have self imposed antler restrictions. I want to leave the smaller racks for another season. I've been doing this for quite a few years now and am beginning to see more and bigger racks in the area. I really can't remember the last time I shot a buck and that's ok...

went out opening day , seen nothing but a 4 wheeler with 2 guys on it on a access rd posted no ATV , No Snowmobiles , No Trucks .. its the only access to one of farm fields .. fking lazy assholes ..
my buddy finally got a doe with his pistol .. you all ready for it .. Glock 10mm .. open sights .. i think he said 15 to 20 yrds .. dropped on the spot ..

Bad opening weekend for me, kinda bummed. Went out all day Saturday with @NirvanaFan and then again Sunday morning. Didn't see a single deer to sight up. Gonna go back out Thursday morning

We seen plenty of deer Saturday, Sunday only a couple. My brother got a doe, we gutted it out and dragged it up to his house, about 1/2 a mile slightly uphill.
I left the heart and liver in the snow and when we went back.out a few hours later a fox found the gut pile and took the heart.
The guy he rents from shot an eight point about half a mile east of where we set so I went where he shot his deer, found the gut pile and took that heart.
On the way down I. The woods this morning a seen a one large set of fresh tracks that went east to the west over towards the big swamp.
I am sitting where my brother shot his doe, the crowd are working the gut pile.

Take part of my statement back. A little 3-point was between NF and me. I was about to tell him to duck but decided to let the guy go for the day, hopefully, he comes back bigger next year. If he comes back while I'm out there again, I'm gonna take it. Not sure how many more times I will be able to go out.

All we have left to do is cut up the hind quarters on my brother's doe.we could of shot another doe today, but we passed upon it. Once this one is processed then it will be time to harvest another.
I will be making a butt load of deer jerky to take back to Washington state.
I have two double batches in marinade right now, tomorrow we will take a ride over towards phasaila to look at a couple of possible hunting camps and stop by Walmart in Norwich for another food dehydrator.

Made the kill shot on this nice doe on Sunday afternoon. My buddy shot it head on and broke front left leg. It turned in front of me. Shot from stand at about 25 yards. Entered in front of left shoulder, through bottom of heart, and out right humerus. Dropped and crawled 5'. DRT.

Meat in the freezer, looks like a nice set of woods.i like that type of wood lot to hunt in.
We got our 2 does cut up and in the freezer last night. My cousin that is living in Virginia now stopped bye and helped. Needless to say we drank too much, it's going to be a long day of work.

Where we have our stands set up, it's 60 x 100 yards max line of sight. In the back, it's so thick you can hardly get through it. And swampy. If you can get through the 100 or so yards of that, it opens up again.
But it's hell trying to get anything out of there.
