Dear mods.

Can we make the classifieds section a "no comments" section.

Any way to make it so there can be no additional posts, only the original ad?

The ads always generate a ton of useless, and sometimes detrimental comments.

As an example You can see the guy selling the mini-14 is fed up already.

I hate when forums do that, its ridiculous IMO. You end up answering the same questions via PM and on top of that, you answer them more than once since no one can see the replies. Basically everything there has been related to the gun for sale.

This isn't an ecommerce store, it's not a selling platform, it's a discussion forum that also happens to allow selling. It should be optimized for discussion.

I know there is the PM option but most people rather just ask questions in the same thread.
I would never buy anything if I cant ask a simple question.
Also, why cant you just answer a couple quetions?
Answering quetions in the thread can also help other interested people. Otherwise the seller may have to answer the same question several times.

Agree 1000%. If a seller wants to limit what is asked, how it is asked, etc ...then use Gun Broker or whatever.

How is that a solution? That only punishes nygf people cause stuff wont be listed here.

I don't sell a whole lot here, but on the other side of the coin, I do notice and renotice a lot of for sale ads when the get bumped to the top for discussion.

If the comments get out of hand, ask for the thread to be closed an start a new one. Tell 'em kev74 sent you and the new ad is FREE!

So the OP has to answer the question via PM then go back and edit the post? So that's twice rather than once at the very least, and more likely three times since it'll take the same question twice before they bother to edit the post out of annoyance.

Again this isn't a professional gun selling website. I understand you're a dealer and that's great, your ads are probably superbly written, but other people's likely won't be and having a place for discussion where people can see the answers is beneficial in many cases in my opinion.

For example, someone has a package deal and they don't want to separate. Someone says "I'll take x and y if you decide to separate" and then someone else says "Hey I'll take Z". That's a beneficial form of discussion.

Many of the comments only derail the selling thread.

It is not about how many time the op visits the thread to update, rather to keep the "nice rifle", "i wish i had the money" "do you have it in 308, whne the sale if for 556". Etc etc

You guys are not looking at it the right way. It is not about questions. It is about the bs posting

Agreed, my generic "holy shit that's a good deal and I want it, good luck with sale" post in the P22 post fits this. It wasn't helpful and didn't lend anything to the thread or sell the pistol.

If the OP doesn't list the basics or other details that are specific to that object being sold, I agree that questions should be asked. Other banter/bullshit should be canned.

Robin's post seemed relevant to me because it's asking for specifics. I'd want to know all that, I know some gun buyers are super picky about what they pick up.

It distracts from the sale. It is not a converstaion. It is a sale. You have the entire board for conversations. FS should not be a conversation.

I see a lot of dudes talking about boners with the gun. All filed under "things I can't unsee" or just general comments unrelated to the sale of the gun. I think some think it's helpful to compliment the thread. I dunno really.

Maybe it should just be more like craigslist, in that it's a post that you can only read what the seller wrote and see the pictures they uploaded and there is a link to be contacted at either your messages inbox or your email account of choice. Anyone who has ever sold anything knows, you'll need to answer repeat questions from people and the better job you do discribing what you are selling in the ad, the less questions need to be asked.

Not about the buyer

Well this isn't a seller oriented forum. It's not a storefront or an e-commerce store. Maybe you can get your own section where those rules apply if that's what you would like, I'm sure everyone wouldn't mind have a dealer only section. It would even help with any apprehensive buyers to know they're buying from a credible licensed dealer.
