I guess it depends on the bullet weight, but for me, 10mm starts at 9gr. I'm working on 10 and 10.5 right now under a 155gr bullet. I'm including a picture of my Glock 29 just so people don't think I'm just a Glock hater.

Accuracy, use, cost... all set aside, and from my designer's eye, that's one of the coolest looking handguns I've ever seen! Way better than any pink sparkly crap. This is why I think I must be a demi-girl, lol.
I don't know whether it's because I'm getting too old and weak, or because of the rotating barrel, but I shoot much more accurate with the lighter polymer Beretta than the heavier steel Remington.

Well it seems like no one has any experience with this sort of project so I will be the forum guinea pig. Any Glock guys have an opinion on the ZEV triggers? Also any opinions on barrels? I think the only thing left to pick out would be a magazine release. Am I missing anything else?
Have no desire to build, maybe only an AR Pistol, but to spend good money on something I want good results, not maybe or so-so...
That said, for a few dollars more (pun intended) I would go with something proven. And yeah, I used to shoot my Glock very well, until I found Sig229. 357 and is my new love and tac driver ; )

The 357 sig is effectively a 357 magnum on a small frame pistol. It is to the 40 cal what the 9x25 dillon is to the 10mm. Rifle like power and speed on a small pistol.
I think 10mm would be my first choice for carey in alaska against animal threats but for normal the 357 is a joy and huge power too. The dillon is just too much and more exclusive.
One might not like glocks but arguing they are not good is a clear sign of intelligence depletion. They might be common and nothing exciting but they are the most popular and dependable pistol in the world. Warranty and service is unparalleled. That is why I like to buy factory. They are decently priced and lifetime service anywhere on the planet.
Of course for me the pistol is a tool for critical duty so I might be too practical for other tastes.

Well this might actually be going forward. I found a company and design I like and have put a feeler out there. If the price is right I will have to find a cheap police trade in and go from there. Here's the guy I'm looking into. OUR PORTFOLIO - JLMachining Works I asked about the Spartan design.
So I may have screwed up this project build and got a price for new complete build. I'm not sure if I'm able to resist buying it.

Ahh. That's what you want so buy it. I wanted to build my 9mm AR but it was easier too just buy it from a manufacturer who already had most of the parts I wanted on it.
The end result is what matters.

Yup my dumb ass ordered that pistol, so much for a project! Well their lead time is 8-10 weeks so let the countdown begin.
If I went without the pain job it would almost be the same price. Also I got to pick the optic cut on the top. The sig only comes with the romeo cut. The romeo does appear to be a good optic but there have been horror stories already. To each their own I guess.

Custom glocks are popular because they are plentiful, lots of options and not that expensive.
In terms of options it is unparalled what one can do with them .... w/o going kitchen gunsmith Bubba of course.
I would not mind getting an aluminum lower and then build a 357 SIG on that frame.
But I have other projects. ...some day.

Lol I'm still taken back as to they why do a custom Glock debate. I have to say why do anything custom, why not just buy everything from the factory as is? If everyone liked the something then there would only be one manufacturer for each item out there. I don't see how a custom Glock is any less valid than a custom 1911 or revolver. It's valid to say I don't ever see myself owning a custom Glock because it's your preference but to invalidate the whole notion because of your biased is wrong.
I don't remember if I explained why I want a custom Glock or not above so if this is a repeat please skip. I'll skip the obvious fact of because I fucking want one. The truth of the matter is this started out as a fun project idea that I could work on slowly and have a fun gun related project going on. I was in need of a 40/357 sig combo so I figured this was a good direction to take. I'll admit the whole thing went sideways with me ordering the gun and not building it but you'll have that. The whole reason I stumbled on to this gun was researching different ideas of the build and to see what's out there. As far as why a custom Glock and not something else well that easy too. I was a Glock hater for a long time until the 43 came out. When they first came out the local FFL had one in the case and I wanted to check out the new gun. As soon as that ugly gun hit my hand I knew it was coming home with me. Hell I wasn't even shopping for a new gun but when something fits that well you can't walk away. So now I had turned a corner and owned a Glock but was still on the edge of liking them or not, then I shot the damn thing and that's when I became a fan boy. I'm not even exaggerating the last time I went to the range I had better groups from the little 43 than my full sized 1911. I don't know why but they just work for me. This leads up to why a custom over a factory Glock, well that's because their ugly. The whole reason I hated the damn things was due to their look and I still stand behind the fact that their ugly. So I wanted a pretty Glock. Am I slapping lipstick on a pig? Maybe, but guess who's getting laid.

I can't sleep so maybe I'm a little on edge but I think you summed it up well.
Many years ago I was at the SHOT show and Caspian had a stainless steel slide for the Glock 19 - Had to have it!! Wasn't cheap either. When I finally got around to getting all the internals for it I was told that it needed to be gunsmithed a bit to get the parts to fit It's in the bottom of my spare parts/holster/stuff tote. So much for my custom Glock.
