Snappo, you're clearly into rockets, but the GT-R is designed to drive on roads with these things called curves.

The shit Detroit foisted on the American public for decades is why many of us now own Japanese or German cars. Bikes aren't even worth mentioning, the Japanese own that market and make awesome products, suggesting otherwise is delusional.

I cannot imagine a GT-R doing much better in curves than my Viper GTS or Chevy Z06; but I don't' go retarded speeds nowadays anyway. I am too old to heal from bad mistakes. For me it's about buying American. It's important to me; though it probably meant nothing to me 30 years ago. And with regard to bikes; it depends what you are trying to accomplish. In my younger days I had a VF1000R, a VF1000F, a V45 Interceptor, and a V65 Sabre. Not saying those were bad products. More recently my bikes were like a 1200 Sportie, and then my forever bike is an FLHS in Candy Bright Ruby that I bought new in 1992. If I still had the need for speed, I would just get a Buell. And I have no issue with German cars. Had more than my share of BMW's and I actually have a Cabrio Turbo that's my wife's summer weekend car. Love German engineering. But I truly like to keep my money in America; and what Japan did in WW II just offends the fuck out of me. I can't believe they never taught about it in High School or college either. Learned about that when I got into WWII C&R stuff 15 years ago.

This is BonnyLynn (the car) my 1976 Pontiac Firebird Formula. Dad bought it for me off a little ole lady in 1979.
Still have and drive her regularly. Use to take her down to Englishtown in the late 80's. Will never part with her.

Right now my project is an Impala SS with a roots style supercharger. I'll tinker with it this winter; but my youngest daughter stole it a few months ago and won't friggin give it back. I think she will give it back in a few weeks before the snows get here. I keep trying to lure here over here with pizza; but she keeps showing up on the Gold Wing and won't bring my SS back. ;-(

Well I ordered the rifle today from a local FFl for the same price as Herb's. He say it should be here Tuesday, so tomorrow I plan on stopping by and dropping off my scope and paying for it. I can't wait to pull the trigger on it and get the thing running for season. I think I'm to sight/ break it in with some cheap perfecta ammo, then run a few strings of hunting ammo and go from there.

these are pretty robust steel bases at good prices.
you might want to order the rings after installing the base and getting the scope and then measuring everything.
Also make sure to bed the scope and make sure of the base threads before you order.

Considering money is tight right now I won't be getting the proper mounting hardware before season. I hope to get it and have someone that knows what they are doing properly measure me, bed and mount the scope early next summer. Here's the scope with the old rings I hope to use on the new rifle.

Nothing wrong with the scope.
Even in super low budget you can make sure the rifle will fit you.
For the cheek you can try a neoprene pad and stuff it with something if needed.
You can also make your own with hockey tape and some padding.
For the rings you might want to get a couple 4 screws rings.
There are some quite inexpensive and they have a very strong locking screws.
Weaver and Vortex tactical are quite inexpensive and they will go stay with the scope.
Even a UTG pro are pretty well made and inexpensive and they also hold zero.
Even Something like this with 4 screws a stronger torquing screw.

Still lap them and insert a steel washer along with the mandory blue locktite.
I used this base for my son's first built and while it is a crude steel base after being bedded they
work like any other steel base...

These with an inexpensive base will handle the pounding of the 30/06 well..

Stopped and got two types of ammo to try out. I still want to stop and get 2 boxes of Perfecta ammo for break in. You guys talked me in to just trying 150 grain. The old me would have been looking at the 160-170's.

I got the rifle home today. Initial impression is a made a good choice. Of course it's all out the door if it doesn't shoot. hoping to break it in Saturday. The only thing I didn't think to get for it yet is a sling. I have never had a sling I loved or would buy again so I am open to all suggestions. Here's your gun porn you pervs.

It looks very nice! how does it feel too you?
I love what they have done with the bolt handle. Simple yet beautiful IMO.
I think the action is one of the smoothest actions I ever tried including some very expensive R700
aftermarket.
Give it a good cleaning to the bolt, chamber and bore.

oh I forgot. I like tactical slings because they are so versatile.
You probably want a 2 point sling but you have very nice 2 point classic with wide padding.
Browning sells a couple of nice ones. I would stop by now in season and see what is on sale
because it really matters how it feels to you with your clothing and carrying style. Also
if you have a backpack or nor. Everyone is different. Don't spend too much. No need.

I wanted to include more in the picture post but the kid wanted to play. First impression is that I made a very good choice. I like the look and feel of the stock. As you stated the bolt is bye far the smoothest out of the box I have ever handled. It feels right in the hands and shoulders well. Two things that stood out to me was the weight. First it was lighter than I thought it would be by far (I'm glad I didn't get it in 300wm now). Secondly how the weight was distributed. It seems to be muzzle heavy not in a bad way. I think how the weight is distributed it will make it better to shoot.

As far as the sling, I prefer a simple sling. The only sling I have ever cared for was what I was issued in boot camp. A simple web sling that is easily adjustable in the field. The reason I like this design is because I like to change the length in the field. One length to carry and one to be able to thread my arm through for a more stable offhand shooting position. For this reason I dislike the current common slings I have no use for padded or fancy slings.

Take a look also at the butler creek, cadwell, and those budget ones on sale. People like them. I don't even know what my other brands are but
I can take a look. You also have them w/o padding if you want. I would not spend too much given they have strong links.

BTW I don't think the B14 is muzzle heavy, not more than other hunting rifles anyway.
The stock is a bit more robust and yes it is true the barrel is a bit more beefed up thus the accuracy
but I don't think it is anything to consider muzzle heavy. In any case you have to like the rifle.
My advice is to shoot it for a while and then you can wrap a few rounds in itght plactic wrap
(or some lead shot) and stick that to the back insidie the stock. Old trick still works.
Test drive it a little bit first. Personally I would bring the optics lower but I am not you so you
have to see what is your ideal position.

I don't think it is muzzle heavy in a bad way. I think the stock is so light weight it gives the feeling of it being muzzle. Even if it is a little muzzle heavy I think it will help shooting the rifle and make for faster follow up shots. I really think it will help the rifle's performance I'm not concerned about it at all it just stood out to me. You are correct it could just be all hunting rifles are that way IDK hunting rifles so it might be standard feature.

I'll see if I can find a picture of the style sling I was thinking about, but I was basically what you would see on the early M16's. I would be willing to order it because I haven't see one locally.

Any of the Greenway members I should be there tomorrow breaking it in. Unless I can get someone else to shoot if that's the case I will be going to private land.

I just ordered this. I have a fancier tab gear sling on another rifle and I liked it. So decided to go with this one for my hunting rifle. It is pricey.

Or just get one of those OEM ones (serveral brands very similar) that are replicas of the Issue but already come with the swivels, some
even have the H&K style hooks on them. They are inexpensive and will work.

I made it to the range today to shoot the new rifle. I really like it I am very happy with the rifle. I have to say the bolt release was an awesome feature for barrel break in. I didn't have a great day shooting for precision, so they weren't my best targets. I don't think it was the rifles fault but my own. A friend came home from over seas and we tied a good one on last night. Needless to say I was pretty hung over shooting today. I'll post the targets in separate posts explaining them.
