They are overpriced for what they are and complex to service, but they are good guns.
Price is subjective, most AKs are more expensive than ARs now and the ACE is built to a higher spec than most. Milled receivers ain't cheap. They are overpriced for what they are and complex to service, but they are good guns.
I really wanted to do my own build the I saw the price of the specialsp tools and decided I'm goo hahaha. I still may eventually snag up a lower receiver or 2 one of these days
What tools did you look at? I used Toth tools. Like everything else it's good if you build more than one. I only needed it to build the 74u and then sold it all. You can always sell these tools and recoup some of your money.
If you ever end up going for a receiver get a nodak spud. Depending on how involved you wanna get you can make a "ghost gun" by bending some flats.
Yeah you really don't save money at all building aks anymore. The kits used to be dirt cheap but now they're expensive. And if that kit doesn't come with a barrel that's even more money. The only reasons to build an AK are for the love of it, you want a gun no one knows about or like me if you find a killer deal on a rare parts kit for a semi rare gun and are forced to build it.Looks like a Bulgarian parts kit is about 500, and if I remember correct a reciever is around 100ish

And they aren't any more complex to service than any Kalashnikov pattern. Less complex really, the is no rear sight block. There isn't much to service to begin with, the only thing you'd need a gunsmith for is the barrel.
So....... you think all AKs are overpriced then? That is the thing no matter what they continue to be AKs.

I think it's a mechanical catastrophe that would never survive the battlefield. And it seems like the Russians think the same thing or they would have adopted it.But sooo cool
I like that extended rail setup at the end.And then the wonderful 107
