Oh gawd! Actually I've heard the chambers on those are cut a little too tight for 100% reliable function. Nice item though.
I'm actually considering dropping the dough on a Noveske CHF chrome lined barrel with a matching headspaced bolt wanna see if that gets me anything. That won't be for a while though, rifling still looks strong in the original barrel yet. Daniel Defense does make a great barrel.

Wouldn't surprise me, those proof research barrels are not meant to be something to depend your life on, but it'll sure as hell cut down your split times when it's primed and polished before every course of fire in a comp. Noveske on the other hand, hell I'd trust my life on one of those based solely upon their reputation, after thorough testing of course.

They made a new version of that Leupold recently I believe. Unless they were just showing off that one. One of the best lpv optics according to some.

@meketrefe, how indicative is exit pupil size of how forgiving the eyebox would be? I know this is a weakness of the small, lpv scopes in general. The nightforce seems especially deficient in this regard. I'm gusseing this is why a lot of the 1-8 scopes ate 34mm tubes. But that 17oz weight is very enticing.

I have a few of 2-7 burrises for the sporting rifles/shtf and they have worked great for a fix parallax.
Also light and have taken a pounding.
IMO Best thing is to go and check them out and look through them.

Every other metric is looking real good on thattl nightforce though. FOV is pretty good as is the eye relief. Gotta check the reticle, see if its clean or cluttered.

There is the advertised value and the real value. You don't know what you are going to find until you look through them
and after properly adjusting the ocular piece.
Again, the most important component of the whole optical system are one's eyes and we all have different eyes
and see light and colors differently.
That is why I say try them out.
I am not too familar abut that specfic model but I do know they are popular in military because they can take a beating.
I checked out a nice Burris 1-5 alongside the Trijicon 1-6. Burris makes a nice scope at a great price but the glass was not as clear and it jad a noticable tint. Not horrible by any means but just not as nice. And as always- too heavy!
You got me wanting to stretch my budget on that night force though!
Its so difficult to try these scopes out. Its exceedingly rare that I go into a store that has anything other than the budget Chinese stuff. Same goes for tge shooters I see on the line.

Eh, I've never been a massive fan of the segmented circle thing, seems like it hides a lot of the target. But being a FFP type maybe at 1x its not a factor. I would really like to look through on of these. Thank you @meketrefe, this scope hits more than it misses for me and the extra magnification is very nice. Of course if I starve after buying one you are responsible!
@meketrefe do you think you could do another write up of your scope mounting process? With pictures and a list of the tools you use?

The main thing is that with a good scope one needs good mounts not aero light flimsy chit.
You know, something that can take a hit like an Acog does.
People seem to have a good opinion of the Aero mount. But wit a 17oz scope I would proly get a Bobro QD mount.
Lets talk mount offsets. What amount of offset would one be likely to want with a 3.75" eye relief. Keep in mind I like to put my nose right on the charging handle.

Well there is the Spuhr mount, but I'm not dropping $450 on a freaking scope mount! The Bobro is half that (still a lot) but is 'sposed to be very good. Pretty light for a QD mount too.
What offset would suit scopes with a 3.5-4" eye relief?

Get the mount after you have the scope with you.
Then you measure everything, work on ergonomics and can order a mount or rings accordingly.
In order to mock something up to find the best position for the scope you can use old rings or a stack of coins
and masking tape. Then you can choose between the different cantilever sizes and ring heights.
My preference is to stay away from long cantilevers and have 3 rings or a couple of large ones if possible.
Not that the scope should be used as a carry handle but eventually you will toss that around and you want
something that will hold zero no matter what.

Spuhr mounts are pretty nice
Also bulky, heavy and very expensive. However nice they may be they run counter to the spirit of the rifle it would go on, which again is not a target implement but a SHTF gun. A modern take on an infantry carbine.
You realize that if I get the scope, check it out, then the mount that would tack on at least an additional month before the scope goes on the rifle right? I'm only home 3-4 days every other month.

I don't know bobro and all other fancy names to waste money but I do know a huge amount of them are really bad by design.
Just look at the ones critical duty people use and you will see the sturdy classic design like Badger Ordinance is pretty common.
There are mounts between 80 to 150 dollars that are sturdier than ones costing twice or 3 times.

Unloaded with no optics it weighs just under 6.5lbs. Thats with a gov't profile barrel. I'd like to keep the all up weight with ammo and optic at or under 8.5lbs. Thats why I'm being such a stickler on scope weights. Otherwise I'd just get the Razor HD and be done with it becasue its otherwise awesome. Also the reason why I was considering the Aero precision mount. Ian and Karl run the aero precision mounts on their rifles in a lot of very demanding 2 gun competitions and have reported no problems with them.

The issue I see with most QD is just that that are QD. I will stay away from things like la rue that are expensive and bite in the receiver.
This looks good as a nice wide flat area but the issue is I want at least two bad ass levers so if one fails you still have the other to get you through the day.
Also that type of cantilever is not a good idea. You really have one ring to take care of of the torque that might be applied in the scope.
That is why the cantilever should be as small as possible.

The problem with 2 piece rings is that with an optic with that much eye relief you run the risk of having to bridge the receiver and handguard with the scope. Undesirable. This is the rifle in question, you've seen it before.
Men that will need to carry a lot of other shit also. Lightweight and durabilty need not be mutually exclusive. Also loading down an AR excessively totally defeats the purpose of the design in the first place which is to be light, agile, fast and handy.I would not compromise durability and consistency a few less oz.
