8oz?! They'd have to make it oit of tinfoil and fill it with hellium to get a 1-8 that light! That 1-8 NX8 @17oz is the lightest 1-8 I've seen so far. most ar around 25oz or more. The Trijicon 1-8 is 28.5oz. $1700 is just a crap ton of money but it seems to get you a lot in that Nightforce. Big thanks to @mekefrete for brining it to my attention.
Don't be like that, I agree that the features in that scope are the future but clearly you see how that model does not meet my admittedly strict requirements.

I understand. Truly, I should have just read the posts on the thread, as the scope types and reticles in discussion are way different than my needs, and I have no experience with those, but I found the thread content interesting. I had no idea 1x8's etc were so heavy, until yesterday after your comment I checked on the Leupold Mark 8. I never researched them because I never wanted/needed one. I thought, incorrectly, you might be interested in just checking on Burris' website, and eyeballing the Burris Eliminator from a technology standpoint. If it was more compact, and if Burris offered more magnification options, it would be worthy of consideration, due to the simplicity of use for multiple ranges, including long ranges, and the weight is similar to what you're considering already. Still, the technology and simplicity of use I find interesting. Personally, I'd love one, but I could never bring myself to throw a scope weighing damn near 2 lbs on my rifle.
That one supposedly only requires hand tightness to be secure but also gives you the option of torquing it for maximum clamping force. Since I will rarely be removing the mount, if ever, this mount appeals to me. Its seems very tough and secure. For a lever mount I think the Bobro one is the best option. G&GG also makes a QD mount though some here would no doubt claim it to be a little too willowy.

For the particular rifle I am scoping, no. The whole point of the LPV scope is to render such a setup as unnecessary. I'm pretty much set on a 1-X. Originally it was going to be a 1-4 but then all these 1-6s came out and now there is this new lightweight 1-8 Nightforce that is within my means. Extra magnifiaction can only help I figure. Is it worth the money? I dunno, it may not be. I'd like to find out though. When I get in a few weeks I'd like to drive to EuroOptics and peruse the wares.
The extra magnification of an 1-8x will be right at home with an SPR. Accurately built these rifles reach out to 600yrds efficiently.
Actually for the SPR I'd be looking at an 2-× or even 3-× scope. Whatever they can range up to nowdays. I have seen 2-10s but are there any 2-12s?
Me neither. I like the "Recce" carbine concept though, a lightweight, handy carbine with the optics and precision to reach out a bit. An all rounder rifle. Maybe I'll take it out yote popping someday.
