Hell and I see they are offering RMR cuts for $80 (not the pro cut which I'd honestly spring for) but at 80 for milling and it not be some dudes garage and just some lathe or drill is a killer deal.

Now honestly I cant see how anyone would argue that the milling makes getting into dots cost prohibitive

No need to spend money on a proper production and procedure, let's find the cheapest, fastest way of doing it, and then wonder later why it breaks or does not preform the way we wanted it to. People are cheap. Spend the $$ and get it done the RIGHT WAY, the first time. $80 for slide milling aint shit. You can save like $300 by going with the Holosun over the RMR. So spend that $$ saved on good production.

I know you’re waiting for his response but can’t hurt to give my advice either. I prefer all black irons (Ameriglo GL-429’s) with an optic on a pistol. It less of a distraction from the optics reticle.

Last year work was crazy at work so so I didn't get to shoot or train much.

As you say black sights are probably better as night sights will be confusing when using a green dot.

Exactly! A weapon mounted light is essential for a carry pistol. If you put night sights and blacked out irons in the same situation...if it’s dark enough that you can’t see what you’re aiming at, then those glowing dots mean nothing. You can’t shoot at what you can’t see. So you’d need a weapon mounted light (or handheld) to illuminate your target. And if that’s the case you’d still be able to see the silhouette of your iron sights no matter if their night sights or black.

I run Trijicon Suppressor Height Night Sights.
Co-witness.
I essentially put the supp. sights on and zero my dot to sit right on the "ball" of the front sight. This gives me a good 15 yard zero.

Yea I'm currently working on winning a buddy over to adding a wml to his carry gun.. he broke down and bought a TLR-7 (always my 3rd suggestiond and 1 and only if someone doesnt think they can carry a full size light) but hes still not completely sold on the whole concept yet

He will come around. All that you really have to do is stick them in a real low light scenario, they learn the need for a light real fast.

He was over the other day and I showed him I could have my x300u pointed at the floor infront of me (kind of a low ready but even more at the ground) and the spill was giving me visual input from the bathroom down the hall with all the lights off.

Granted I'm working on getting him to go to the dot life. Even telling him to grab a Holosun 407c, save a couple of bucks but still get a good dot, can sell it later if he wants a Trijicon (which he wants)

Which is kind of funny because someone with the mindset to want a red dot would normally get the reasoning for needing a light. A light should be had on the pistol before a upgrading to having a red dot.

You don’t even need a low light class. Wait for it to get dark and make sure it’s pretty much pitch black, then have him identify items in the room, colors of objects, if you have paper targets you could put them up around the house. Can he tell are they threats, non threats, are they holding anything in their hands (pistol, wallet, cellphone, hammer?). He won’t be able to identify anything let alone get proper sight picture/sight alignment to even be able to shoot if he had to.

That's what I tried to do with the bathroom example which started to peak his interest.

That's why I pointed out to him I have a handheld.

But if while using my handheld I see a need to pull my gun, I'm dropping my handheld, because it's no longer a priority, to get a proper 2 handed grip on my gun and activating my wml

But I’m sure you can remember the last time you were somewhere where it was dark enough that you could barely see anything or be able to see enough detail that you would need to determine if you should draw a firearm. It’s practically in everyday life.
