Can't recall anyone saying she should get off because of who daddy is and who daddy knows. I know I've been saying I'd be trying to use the get out of jail free card on behalf of my kid if I had it, no different than this guy did.

And for the record she should be charged no different than any of us would be charged. That doesn't change my opinion of his attempt though.

The fact that he tried demonstrates the problem with the system.

He tried because he thought he had a chance. And TBH, why shouldn't he think his kid should be punished ?

It's not like they would have executed her or thrown her in prison for the rest of her life. If the punishment isn't appropriate, that's *another* strike against "the system".

It also sounds like he might have had a decent chance if the paper trail hadn't already started....

Fixed it.....much closer to the situation in question. A parents protective instinct is to do MOST anything they can to protect their kids.

Oh sure, I'd pay a lawyer to get the penalty reduced as much as possible for a DWI, but not unethically so.

I shared a story here not too long ago in reference to my step son getting a ticket. I could have gotten him out of it. I made him go through the process.

2 or 3 beers .. and you pull me over for a tail light out ... i'm still coherent enough to know that's incriminating myself to take a test .. i will refuse ...

I'm not saying there is anything wrong with refusing to take the test. That's how the system is built, its flawed, but its what we've got.

For me with a CDL .04 and I am arrested while driving my own car. A person could have 2 drinks and be arrested for DWI. . I never take that chance . If I am driving 1 beer is the most I will allow myself .

Why was the convoy stopped and what tickets were written?

No tickets because our Inspector demanded we all be arrested instead so we could be brought right before the judge. Apparently one can request that down there.

They stopped us for driving as a convoy in the left lane. We did it because we were a mile long and if we drove in the right lane we would block the entrances and no one would be able to exit.

I could only hear some of it as I was a hundred or so yards back, but the trooper definitely wasn't kindly explaining the dilemma. He was looking for Civil War payback.

Discretion based on circumstance is an unfortunate reality with how badly written our laws are. Imagine a world where the laws were clear enough and appropriate enough that you never felt the need ?

That said, discretion base on the specific circumstance of an incident is completely different than discretion based on *who* comitted the crime, or who they know. U fortunately you can't allow one without allowing the other.

This office may have even been glad he started the paper trail before daddy got involved, otherwise he would have had a harder time saying no (and if the guy had connections, he might have even tried bullying).

If you get into a car directly after drinking a beer or a glass of wine without waiting 30 minutes, it is.

Now drink 2 glasses and well, you are stone cold drunk according to the machine but perfectly sober.

So if your kid, or you were in this situation you wouldn't try to make it "go away"? I see no harm in asking. Now if in this case the cop had said "OK, come get her and we'll forget it happened" I might take issue. But getting up to speed on the situation and trying to protect your kid...no harm, no foul.
I've been let out of speeding tickets for various reasons including my connections, etc. I drove away and never looked back. If it was a DWI bust I would have tried the same things.

Teaching your child to take responsibility for their actions is what it's about, not "protecting" them. Our society has become one of "it's someone else's fault" and never truly the responsibility of ones own actions. My son is learning at 10 years old the concept of decision and consequence. Once learned, this situation should not occur in the first place. This girl gets a free pass and what does she learn? When does it stop? More DWI's? Maybe one with fatalities? White collar theft? Drugs? No consequences, no motivation to do the right thing? Why can't people seem to get that?

One DUI will not stop someone from joining nearly all LE agencies. It can absolutely screw up other things in life though.

I am not opposed to this father reaching out to protect his child. I would take issue if the cop allowed the entire incident to go away with no repercussions.

I tired to get into the US Border Patrol and the US Park Police back in the early 2000's. My DWI when I was 21 years old prevented me from getting in.
