So if your kid, or you were in this situation you wouldn't try to make it "go away"? I see no harm in asking. Now if in this case the cop had said "OK, come get her and we'll forget it happened" I might take issue. But getting up to speed on the situation and trying to protect your kid...no harm, no foul.
I've been let out of speeding tickets for various reasons including my connections, etc. I drove away and never looked back. If it was a DWI bust I would have tried the same things.

The same thing happens with military plates, FOP cards, Volunteer Fire and EMS, ect. The same thing happens in regards to speeding and how you handle yourself at a speeding stop. Most of us have gotten warnings at one time or another due to being respectful and the cop seeing that.

Human nature. What's more strange is people who don't get this. If you want robot cops, move to VA or FL. You'll get your wish, just make sure you install a governor on your car.

That is the truth. My dad's local police in Palm Bay, FL stop you for 2 to 3mph over.
They stop marked police cars from other agencies in those states. Hell, they stopped a whole convoy of us coming back from Katrina (you can find articles about it online).
In cop facebook groups, I war with them over this nonsense. Responding to back up a guy one day, writing him the next for speeding home from all the court overtime. It's crazy shit.

There have been several times in Oneida County where they do their compliance check roadblock delaying tactics. I usually get waived through when I'm in the truck or stopped so we can trade BS

How do all of you feel about cops letting other cops go when caught driving at about twice the legal limit? Then locking up other people for blowing .09 later that shift? I understand trying to get a break. Giving one for some is total BS in my opinion.

I like how this deputy handled this one except for one thing. I don't like how they consider waiting until the dad gets there to see if he wants her to take the test. He most likely took his time to let the old BAC drop before he made a decision.
Kids that get away with shit because of their parents end up being terrible adult's in many situations. The Binghamton chiefs son has been caught with heroin passed out behind the wheel and similar things many times. He's hit cars, still gets away without charges. It always just goes away. He's a mess and is going to kill someone. I think he finally got a charge out of the area. Another local dept's chief arrested his niece for heroin. She got clean and gives talks to students about how to avoid going through what she did. Asking for special treatment might be human nature. Granting it is worse for society as a whole. I'm not talking minor traffic stuff here though. I have been given breaks in the past.
Here is one involving our not so esteemed senator and his classless GF. :

Can't recall anyone saying she should get off because of who daddy is and who daddy knows. I know I've been saying I'd be trying to use the get out of jail free card on behalf of my kid if I had it, no different than this guy did.
And for the record she should be charged no different than any of us would be charged. That doesn't change my opinion of his attempt though.
