So by mid August we should be well into WW3.

I don't know if it will be the next few weeks but I think this "crisis" is past the point of diplomatic return. NK isn't going to stop and they keep doubling down. Trump and Matt is clearly stated multiple times it's not going to happen.

Its only a matter of time until someone's will is imposed on someone else.

It can't go on much more in its current situation. Every day tensions escalate and the rhetoric increases.


In my opinion it will go down like this in a series of incremental steps,

Nk will shoot off another ICBM
we will shoot it down or attempt to shoot it down
NK will not react well and will either test another nuke or shoot more missiles
Trump will say ok game over its on.

Didn't Johnson and the CIA have involvement in the death of JFK? I read that the day before JFK got whacked, Johnson tells his mistress something to the effect of "This is the last day I have to take orders from that fucking Irish mafia". I try and shy away from black helicopter conspiracy crap; but due to pressure from American voters, Congress put together a committee on presidential assassinations in the 1970's and again in the 1990's after that Oliver Stone movie. Both determined there was definitely a conspiracy with multiple shooters; but never went as far as to put actual blame at anyone's feet.

The reason I bring that up is that while Kim Dim Sum might be a fuckwad of epic proportions; killing people in your own regime is not something that is new to USA. We have a long history of killing our own people for political gain.

Lincoln was another executioner in that regard. He felt that some of the wealthy business people in the North might be sympathetic to the South because of their vast investments throughout the USA. He rounded up thousands of business people (estimated at 20,000+ or 1 out of every 1,500 Northerners) and put them into internment / concentration camps. Many died in those horrible conditions; which should not be considered internment conditions that would be equal to conditions at a military prison in 2017.

I don't think that NK will do anything they feel they cannot get away with; and I don't think Trump will go to war with NK. That having been said; do military contract stocks go up during the early parts of a war? Like United Technologies, Grumman Aerospace, Lockheed Martin Marietta, etc. Maybe it's time to make some money if stuff goes down!

That take is different from this one, based on the same chinese source:

But, in any case it's a state owned paper and I think it is a good representation of many people's thoughts about NK.

Something we easily forget is that China lots a ton of people in the korean war defending what is now north korea. To abandon that now is to say they were wrong.

I also wonder if Trump should say publicly that he is stepping up 10 fold the money spent on missile defense. China and Russia only care as long as they think they can still hit us. With NK being armed with nukes, should we not have THAADs in everyone's back yard? That might finally scare China. But probably not.

Not only does the US lack the will to do what that nypost article describes as necessary (and I think it is), but after this debacle, Iran is going to decide screw it we can get nukes now, too. And it will do so, knowing that the last bit of preemptive will was used up in the shit show of the Iraq war. As long as possible iran will keep working on nukes under the proxy of NK but ultimately Iran will realize our threats mean nothing.

With the US's actual appetite for conflict against even clearly inferior foes all but nonexistent I truly wonder why we spend all this money on things. I'm happy getting some of it back personally so I can buy another TV or save up for vacation.

The way I see it is we only go to war with NK if they make the first move. We lack the resolve. If NK does not attack, it will have validated my belief all along that their craziness is merely a facade and they are playing us for fools. Because they know they are not capable of winning. If they attack first, it will prove me wrong, prove them crazy, and their regime will be summarily taken off line.

Next up Iran will get its program back on track.

Yeah I pondered this earlier in the thread. If we're going to play with our dicks while Kim gets a nuke anyway, why are we still paying for troops in SK? Let them deal with this shit. We're not accomplishing a damn thing spending money down there. Kim still won't invade SK in any case.

I would like to think that the US has a shitload of missle defense intercept systems currently deployed across the Pacific rim along any potential flight path. The NK sneak attack would come if they use a suitcase nuke potentially already here.

Going to ROK this weekend for six weeks and I will be able to see if there is a posture difference at the two USAF bases as visited the same places for last 10 years. Of course I am not saying any more about it here. My work directly helps our troops and the mission so that's all I am saying. Also if the troops have some more seriousness to their work, I would hope for as I got 41 year experience in something they really need to do better at and now is the time. They tended not to be so serious in the past. My worry would be China attacking when they come to NKs aid on any conflict.
