Other than local news I’m starting to see this already fade from the national headlines. My guess is that since he wasn’t right wing, he explicitly stated he picked a location in NY due to NY gun control laws, that he used a full featured rifle that was already illegal and that he was known to some extent to authorities is contributing to the thought this doesn’t fit the narrative of what they wanted. I can see them targeting body armor with some new law, but in regards to the other things, what will you do, make everything double triple illegal now?

To them, this happened on thier home turf.
In an election year.
A year which may result in very close outcomes in November. One that can be actionable before said elections. To them, those in the race, doing something, regardless of if it could have altered the outcome and most likely wouldn't have, whatever it may be, doesn't matter. It's the headline that they did "something " that matters to them, that allows them to stand at a podium and attempt to sway voters. It isn't logic driven. It isn't utilizing real common sense. It's the views and optics that matters. That's it. Its unfortunately that shallow of a pond swam in. You asked " what will they do now, make things double or triple illegal? " To them its irrelevant. Whatever they will do will, IMO, not make sense, punish law abiding citizens and not focus on the real task at hand, dealing with the scum bag who perpetrated the crimes appropriately. My hope is that this dirtbag never sees the light of day again.

A second thought just ran through my mind. I'm unaware if anyone being successfully prosecuted under the safe act ( please correct me if I am wrong). I am against the safe act, this needs to be said, but I wonder if this will be used in his prosecution, or pled out.

Third- if this is a hate crime ( no doubt certainly seems this way) doesn't this fall under federal jurisdiction? If so, what sentencing does this carry?
