It's true the NAZI's were both anti-communist (sort of) and were fanatics, but they were not fanatic about their anti-communism. Plus, Hitler was a rank amateur compared to Stalin when it comes to atrocities.

I said this a hundred times. It's not for outsiders to decide. It's a call that should be made by people in these countries. Vietnamese certainly don't want to go back to colonial period. Chinese are very proud of the progress. Cubans love how they rank compared to their neighbors in Latin countries. Propaganda cartel in Washington and its parrots aren't happy, I can understand that.

That said, a government that comes to power through military force and refuses to hold free and fair elections is not a call really "made by the people," though. Saddam Hussein usually got >90% of the vote in Iraq. Fidel Castro always received a vast majority of the Cuban vote, no matter how poor the economy was or how many people were living in abject poverty. The CCP also seems to be amazingly "popular" among Chinese citizens. And, I doubt that Kim will lose his next election in North Korea.

As it has been said, the real test of any democracy is the second election.

There is such concept as National unity. For many nations its the best way forward. It's not perfect and its not without pitfalls, but neither is a sleazy democracy we have in this country. The bottom line, every nation has a right to chart its own future without Supreme values being forced on it from outside. Gotta mostly agree with you, again. The only caveat: Citizens must really be free to choose their own course. Such is never the case where coercion and rigged elections are the rule.

Here in the U.S., many of our leader have strayed so far from first principles, they are themselves the antithesis of our bedrock ethos.

But, under communism, the government has seized the means of production, and with it the responsibility to produce.

That is the core difference between capitalism and communism.

In capitalism people compete to see who can be most productive.

Under communism they compete to see who can demonstrate the most "need".

One leads to prosperity as people strive to be more productive.

The other leads to misery as everyone tries to out "need" each other.

Socialism (which every existing country has to some extent today) is just anything in the middle. The closer to the communist ideal you get the more things suck, for everyone.

I've come to the conclusion that more thsn 50% of people don't actually *want* freedom.

They can't handle the responsibility that comes with it (i.e. things being their fault when they make poor choices).

They tend to resent people who do want it, and want it taken away from them as well, rather than just admit their own faults.

I have no use for such people, as far as I am concerned they shouldn't be welcome here, no matter where they were born.

Freedom can be measured in many ways, but freedom of speech is one and the USA ranks near or at the top. The rest of the west has enacted hate speech laws, so by definition no longer has freedom of speech.

As for Cuba I thought long ago we should have stopped embargoing them. We shouldn't do anything to help them directly now because it seems to blow up in our face and if after decades of living in third world conditions the people there still haven't done anything I doubt critical mass of them will now, either. Make no mistake: Cuba is a poor shithole, and I know that you know this as well. But, the people seem incapable of changing that.
