Has anyone bought one of these short barrel shotguns? How about the Remington Tac 14?
I have been looking at them and trying to decide whether to buy one.
I have been looking at them and trying to decide whether to buy one.
Went to my LGS and they had one on the wall. I wanted something different and it fit the need, but because they weren't sure it's legal, they wouldn't sell it to me. I was first on the list but I haven't heard back from them in a month. Ended up buying a Mini 30 with my spare cash.
Too bad. I have some remington tac 14.....
And i understand The laws of the industry that I am part of.
Why the Shockwave vs the 500 w/traditional pistol grip? Just because?
Does the birdshead grip give good control? I like the breacher barrel below, an extra accessory and attention getter.
I fail to see the point over a normal shotgun. Now if it had a detachable mag (so the capacity isn't determined by the barrel length), the stockiest brace made, them maby.
The short barrel on the Shockwave offers a wider pellet spread. The birdshead mostly compensates for the short barrel to keep the OAL over 26". If you swapped it out for a pistol grip, the gun would be too short.
I once had an opportunity to fire a short barrel NFA 12ga with both a cut off wood stock (just the hand grip area left) and a plastic pistol grip. I recall the cutoff wood stock was much more comfortable. Probably because the recoil gets spread across the palm of your hand, without as much of it going directly between the web of your thumb and forefinger. I would assume the birdshead would be more comfortable than a pistol grip even if the OAL was not an issue.
I spoke to a Boss at the State Police Pistol Permit unit a few weeks back and he (VERY Pro gun guy) advised that Troopers who came across people in possession of these guns were trying to collar people for possession of these things. He inquired with the SP legal counsel for an opinion and he is still waiting and will probably continue to wait. This state sucks - without a doubt. They could have machine guns, mortars and atomic bombs on sale in a store. The question is, is it worth getting collared and trying to fight it? What does the gun give you that you are willing to go through that. I have been a cop for over 20 years and having worked for a few different agencies, I can tell you that most cops are not gun people. Don't get me wrong - I am Very pro gun and own multiple NFA Items due to my exemption as a Police Officer. Just some friendly advice. I see people pushing the limits all the time. There are tons of people on ranges and in classes, that if someone really looked, might turn and nice day at the range, to a very unpleasant future.
How long ago? I talked to him a few weeks to a month ago and he still hadn't got an opinion back from themMy LGS has talked to the SP (I believe also got a letter can't remember) and the SP told them that they are kosher

I just looked in my email - I had called him in regards to an issue I was helping a retiring cop with and the email in regards to the unrelated topic was August 11. I was on the phone maybe a few days to a week before that. I would call the State police Pistol permit unit before you buy one. Just my .02 cents.I'd say 2 months ago
