so is this the actual purpose of windowed slides?Necroing this thread because it's the only one to come up. I'm going to keep searching.
But I may tip my hat to @Willjr75 I think I just found something that has me about to go to a ported barrel over waiting for someone to give me a non threaded comp..
Uses factory slide and barrel or aftermarket they do the porting in house..

Part of it. The other part is to lighten the slide to increase cycle time or to offset the weight of an optic.so is this the actual purpose of windowed slides?

So can you legally have a muzzle brake on a pistol in NYS as long as it's not threaded? There are a bunch of cool machined one's I've seen that I'd like to buy if that's the case.
Is this legal in NYS?

how about a compensated barrel bushing?Yes say you welded one on, or for 1911s had a frame mounted break, its legal. Threads are what are a no go
how about a compensated barrel bushing?
I meant like, is that something someone has ever made before. Never seen one myself and im not familiar enough with 1911's to know if it's possible or not.As long as there are no threads on the barrel its g2g

I'm ignorant to this. Instead of all that drilling of the entire barrel and the cutting off the slide to make everything ugly and ruin the reliability of the firearm (Debris getting in and slide timing issues due to everything cut to hell), why not just drop in a barrel with the ports cut at the muzzle and not have to seriously modify anything like below?
VP9 Match Weight, VP9 Comp, VP9 compensator, VP40 Comp, VP40 compesator, VP40 match weight
H&K has an option out there as well.
That's true but I'll raise with the mall ninja coolness.Uuummm? I think it is to lighten the slide allowing you to use a lighter recoil spring in an effort to tame the movement of the gun. Less moving mass (in either direction) will keep the gun from moving around as much.
With light loads, a light slide, and the correct light recoil spring you can effectly have close to no recoil.
I buddy has a 9mm that basically does not move. You should see the video. His splits, and hits, are incredible.
That's a real shame because I thought that was a great idea.View attachment 36410 The war-loc works. I was lucky enough to snag one. I compared stock and comped. There was an obvious difference. Next range trip I will post a video of a regular barrel and then the war-loc shooting.
Anibal at weapons armament research told me that he was trying to bring cost down on it. Too expensive to make. Probably didn’t see much profit margin even though it was $380

I just like the fact that it would be easier to remove for disassembly. So I also talked to them on one of their posts with their new comps. They do plan on doing a "loc" version but I doubt they will, they keep jumping from project to project and like you said not much profit margin.
There is another company saying they are also working on a Cali and NY legal non threaded version of their new comp they plan to release then work on the non threaded. But again who knows if they will ever get to it or the cost.
So sadly I am going to settle for getting my gun ported.
The pic above is a package, they do the ports. Top slide cut for the ports, rmr cut, and cerakoate for under $300.
Seems to be a good name company, and if I dont like the ports I can always get an OEM barrel for decent price or an match grade one

I knew a dude named Oring. Mechanic, good guy.Right, like I wish more would figure out how to do a QD option, vs oring and lock tight and waiting 24hrs, or having the comp loosen ever couple hundred rounds
Yea man. MOD-K is a reputable company. They had a good black Friday dealSo I also talked to them on one of their posts with their new comps. They do plan on doing a "loc" version but I doubt they will, they keep jumping from project to project and like you said not much profit margin.

Yea man! I got my 34 ported with Loki. They did a Glock style porting. It’s pretty good. They did it with my agency premier barrelYea once I saw the work I was pumped, saw the price for all the work though umm. Been looking and convinced they are g2g and will be sending my slide and barrel out for the flat pack. Aka ports and slide work

Honestly not sure. 34 is easy to shoot to begin with because of the length. I would like to see a ported 19 vs a comp 19.How many ports. And how does the port stack up to a comp
I read a lot about people not liking ported/comp barrels for CCW. Since the ports face up and sideways the muzzle flash is directed up and to the side. Making it hard to see at night when you shoot. What's good about the ports is that it keeps the stock length of the gun and like you said, another barrel brings it to normal.
