Unfortunately I can't do occluded eye aiming, or any aiming at all with my weak eye. Car accident and the subsequent impact with an airbag left me with a big blind spot in the center field of vision in the left eye. I still have good and clear peripheral vision on that eye but if I try to focus on anything it just disappears on me.

Same here with the un-focusing eye. Natural though. Nothing to do with a cat.

That hanguard shaves around 6oz off the rifle and improves it's handling a bit, the stubby vert grip does its job of helping me seat the rifle into my shoulder pocket firmly. And the ACOG on it's Bobro QD mount easily clears the rear sight.
Stinking sling didn't come in though! Or else I missed it.

If I could have this, I'd have no use for any AR's in .223. I'd have this for outdoors and my AR9 for indoors. 12 more years.

After one round of ammo purchasing for this thing you would quickly rediscover a use for your .223 guns. To be totally honest while I've been wanting a nice .308 semi auto and this thing certainly fits the bill but its not something I had any great need for. It can't do too much more than my ARs. I can't wait to mess around with that ACOG though! I'll get it zeroed, shoot some groups then put the red dot back on and re-zero it for my class this weekend. I am very pleased with the handguard as well, looks totally factory.

I can see the price of ammo is more expensive but I don't shoot rifles alot.

To be honset surplus M80 isn't dramatically more expensive than 5.56. The commerical stuff is murder though, my gawd!
But since you are so keen on it I think you should find a way down to PA for a bit, I'd be happy to let you shoot it to your heart's content.

I am going to have to invest in a proper rest or some kind or a nice bipod. Prolly the bipod, with a QD pic rail attachment. The narrow board with a little sandbag on top was not a very steady rest. Regardless I did glean enough info to determine that it liked the 168gr Hornady pretty well. Next time out I'll try some 168 Gold Dots and if she likes those as well I'll stock a case or two.

I shot this at 100 yards, in ridiculously windy conditions. Kept blowing the freaking targets off the board!

Oh, and I definitely pulled that lower left shot of the 168gr Hornady group. That was the first shot and I was stacking the trigger and it went off before I was settled on the bull. But subtracting that the group is about an inch, I'll take it. The Galil can't do too much better than 1 MOA anyways. We'll see what I can do off some proper support.

Oh and the ACOG scope is pretty awesome. Very clear and I like the chevron reticle. All I had to do to zero it was bring it up a few inches, was bang on windage wise from the get go.
I also tested the return to zero of the top cover.
With the poor shooting I did today I detected no shift in POI at 100 yards.

It moved back a little, proly just enough to unlock and the piston to clear some of the vent holes in the gas tube. The gas pressure just took the path of least resistance down the bore I guess. I wonder if a recoil operated system would have caused injury?
