IANAL so take this as an educated guess. The date of 2-19-14 is likely entitled 'Issued'. If that's the case your renewal is five years from that date.

It gets better. This past July I went in to add another firearm and they re-issued me another permit because the ink wore off the original and the Permit number was no longer visible. So the new one I have has a judge signature of 7-14-16. So does this mean my renawal is 5 yrs from this date.

Self filing my business income taxes is more straight forward than this bullshit.

If I were you I'd just keep filing purchase amendments. Seems your permit is on a revolving door for issue date. LOL

I think each county does what they want. There doesn't seem to be any uniformity.

I'm on my second county. When I switched from Monroe, Steuben carried over my original issue date.

The original was a plastic card that ran through a card printer. Had no clear coat or lamination over the ink. Over the years the ink wore off the card by carrying it in my wallet. Guessing through rubbing against the other crap in my wallet.
New one is laminated so must be that many people had same issues.

Definitely not all the same. Met for beers with a couple buddies who we all live through out the state and started BS'ing about CCW and it comes down to our permits all look different.

Peace officers need no worry

Any handgun personally owned by a police/exempt peace officer, whether by virtue of employment OR by pistol license, is also in the state police central firearms database. The public employer of such officer must notify the NYSP of any firearms acquisition or deletion that is listed with their agency.

No, that is done by the county sheriff's or clerks office as it has done in the past. For the NYSP to even ask that question is a redundancy on their part since they already have that information in their database.

You have more confidence in their database than they do. The only reason for them to require this is to clean up a dirty database.

IMHO, the dirtier it is the better.

Quite similar to the voter enrollment of each county. The enrollment sheets are coated with the names of deceased voters whose names were never deleted and also those who moved and never bothered to re-register at their new location.

Without me going to find all of the original paperwork, how the heck do I know when exactly I received my permit?

I know it was right around January 2013 but hell if I can remember if it was before or after. I also remember the Judge sitting on it after screwing up the original signature and the permit having to go back to him to re-sign. It was last signed by Judge Cahill on 2-19-14

Yeah but still, where does that leave you? NYSP are going to enforce this whether your county sheriff backs it or not. Is that letter stating that the sheriff's dept will stand inbetween you and NYSP, so don't re-cert? Or is it just a notice stating that the sheriff's office isn't going to be a party to the safe act?
