That agency has since changed to detecting bullshitters. He must have not known about the approval required from the willjr75 badass certification agency.![]()
Yeah but still, where does that leave you? NYSP are going to enforce this whether your county sheriff backs it or not. Is that letter stating that the sheriff's dept will stand inbetween you and NYSP, so don't re-cert? Or is it just a notice stating that the sheriff's office isn't going to be a party to the safe act?
Already on file with the County Clerk - this will establish a centralized database of PP holders and their weapons.
Next step............
There are other interesting forms on the link - like this one:
https://troopers.ny.gov/Firearms/PPB-5.pdf
Which is for PP amendments. Does this indicate that from the point of recertification, that all amendments will be entered into a NYSP database?
Can you say Nazi?
Does the "re-certification" include the NYSP completing a new NICS check on each PP holder? Is that the point, to catch people who are no longer eligible - or is the point to make a new database that they have control over?
Most people here are just talking. They'll fill out the paper after they receive a final notice. Whether it's when they first get it or after a threat that their licence will be revoked. But let's play the game of a worst case scenario for a tough guy.
So you get the letter and you throw it out. Cool. You showed them! You may get another one signature requested or you may not. Failure to take action and the NYSP informs your country to suspend or revoke your license.
Now you play the same game with your county who you had no issue with in the past regarding registration that they themselves forwarded to the state. After repeated ignorations, eventually a uniformed officer knocks on your door. You decide not to comply with him as well and tell him that you don't have anything in the state anymore. At this point in moment, you just made yourself ineligible to own firearms in this state.
All this because you don't want to register something that already is registered.
It makes no sense whatsoever.

It's only a matter of the NYSP attempting to "clean up" a corrupted pistol database with current, up-to-date contact information. It's the same way with the counties' voter enrollment sheets: voters die, move etc without notifying the Board of Elections. This is why the Elections Board sends out notices prior to election day but without any follow-up. NYC, Nassau, Suffolk and Westchester Counties are exempt from the NYSP re-certification process since these municipalities have their own renewal programs in place.
Some guys don't get that.
Don't know why some pistol licensees make a "big deal" out of it on these boards. If you live in NYC; about the only pistol license the average citizen will get from NYPD is a premises only license. And for that privilege it will cost $340 every three years!! Can't transport the handgun unless it is in a locked container with the pistol unloaded and only to a range located in NYC. To re-certify with the NYSP costs nothing! To renew with Nassau, Suffolk and Westchester Counties costs a fee.
My wife has received her letter, I have not. This goes to show you how fragile their notification system is. How many people out there dont follow state news and will lose their firearms rights because they never knew that they had to renew their "lifetime license"?
