Voluntarily allowing the state into our homes by not complying with this recert bullshit isn't going to do anyone a bit of good, there is no way to win this. On February 1st everyone who hasn't done their recert will no longer be considered a law abiding citizen and he will have won that battle. Sounds great on the web but at the end of the day when firearms get taken it's a loss no matter how you look at it. Der Fuhrer wants that to happen so he can go on his soap box saying how much safer he made NY by confiscating such and such number of illegal handguns and rifles. And that's exactly what will happen.

Easier said than done in most areas. Most off the grid are stolen to begin with. I know plenty who've done just this but I also choose to carry mine and hunt with mine. That route isn't viable for me. The fist time, god forbid, that I ever used one in self defense is a sure trip to the slammer for having an off the grid handgun. The first time an ECO stops to chat while I'm hunting with an off the grid handgun is a sure trip to the slammer. I just plain prefer to use my handguns without sneaking between shadows.
As for SCOTUS being forced to take it, I'm not feeling so warm and fuzzy about that. I still think we need a better grasp on SCOTUS. If there's a couple deaths soon that can be positively replaced by Justices that will rule by law instead of feelings, I wouldn't be so pessimistic . There's just no trust in them right now. It's no different than all the Republicrats clamoring they have our backs. Yeah, right.

Per chance NYSP claims a mailed in and reciepted recertification was not recieved when it actually was its called mail fraud which is a federal crime. If they try that on a large scale, nice federal case with offenders doing time in federal penitentiary. (Amherst postal supervisor.)

In recent months, state and county officials have raised concern that failing to extend the recertification deadline would turn thousands of law-biding pistol-owners into criminals overnight.
The recertification requirement was passed in 2013 as part of the New York Secure Ammunition and Firearms Enforcement Act, which mandates that permit holders re-certify every five years. Only those who acquired their permits before Jan. 15, 2013, are subject to the Jan. 31 deadline.

Strickland and Sheriff Thomas Dougherty are encouraging pistol permit holders in Livingston County to recertify their permits.
“Although I continue to be opposed to the SAFE Act and how the state has mishandled this very important topic, I do urge you to recertify your permits,” Dougherty said. “I do this for your own best interest as I do not want a good, law-abiding citizen to be stripped of their Second Amendment rights by the state of New York and subsequently put yourself in jeopardy of state law enforcement knocking on your door to confiscate your permit and your firearms.”
State Police could petition the court to revoke a pistol permit of a permit holder who fails to recertify. If the pistol permit is revoked by the court, the individual can not possess any firearms at all, including long guns, Dougherty said.
“Bottom line, take the time to recertify and keep your rights intact,” he said.

I said as much in another thread on this. To me, it gives a small indication as to just how much law enforcement likes this law ( which isn't much). You don't really see all that many safe act arrests in the news and most, if I'm not mistaken, are charges attached to something else. So far this law's greatest achievement has been creating a chill effect on gun owners. It is starting to show how absurd and mostly unenforceable it is, though I'm sure most LEO's knew that from the get go.

Local news here in Broome County last night had the Sheriff on regarding this debacle, reported only 6000/26000 permit holders had re-certified. That's Broome County alone, which means at least 250,000 permits across the state that will be non-conforming come Jan 31, talk about a potential shitstorm.

This is almost getting to the point of being unbelievable if we weren't actually living it.
There will be so much to keep straight regarding the following list below. That I may have some events out of order.
And I probably forgot some stuff and some of it may be incorrect but I'll do my best.
1.) The NY UNSAFE Act is rushed through in the middle of the night by the state legislature without consideration of whether it would criminalize law enforcement officers... Also using the message of necessity. (when there was no emergency)
2.) We protest, A cardboard cut out of an AR15 gets confiscated by the NYSP, And FUAC gets upset about the grass.
Then the pro 2A gun groups get in a spat about who is responsible for paying for the busses or parking.
3.) "NY Shooter" goes on his rah rah campaign and gets people involved in a class action lawsuit or whatever the fuck that shit was all about,,, and then NY Shooter just disappears.
4.) 52 of the state’s 62 counties, passed resolutions opposing the law.
5.) The NYS Sheriff's Association publicly states that they oppose the NY UNSAFE Act. Many County Sheriff's state that
their department will not be enforcing the unconstitutional law.
6.)There is no such thing as 7 round magazines so FUAC grudgingly relents on that but sais that we can only load 7 rounds in our 10 round magazines. Then the court rules that we can now load 10 rounds in our 10 round magazines. But there is confusion whether or not that means the entire state or just the western district.
7.) Muzzle Brake is spelled wrong in the law. So the court gives us a freebee for a while.
8.) FUAC plans on using NICS for NYS ammo background checks and the Feds tell Andy to pound sand.
But the ban on ammo purchases from the internet is still in place.
9.) Corrupt NYS courts.
10.) NY UNSAFE Act (help website?) and the penal code is never brought up to date to reflect any changes that has been made regarding the law.
11.) HIPPA laws are violated.
12.) The United States Department of Veteran Affairs announced that it will not follow the provision of the NY SAFE Act requiring mental health professionals to report patients who seem more likely to hurt themselves or others.
13.) Confusion on what is "permanent" and what is not. (The Albion Gun Shop fiasco) only added to the confusion when
the NYSP said that as long as a bullet button is epoxied it is NY compliant.
14.) Only a 4% compliance rate regarding the registration of "so called" assault rifles.
