Once you register it, they will breath down your neck for the rest of your natural life and take it away at the first slip up. After you leave this world they will harass your wife, who is too old to handle the sale of it by the book and will in many cases just surrender the firearms to the local precinct.

The tweets are stupid, the captains do that. I have refused to be in a few pictures when it has happened here.
It will take legal action to get anything back. The value of that firearm or most firearm collections are not worth the legal fees. Most people will just say fuck it, I will just buy another rifle(s) and they can keep my permit and choke on it. Not a lot of incentive to pay permit fees for the privilege to have your legal property stolen from under you.

Yeah, there's only a few firearms that I own that have sentimental value to me. The stuff that's been passed down through the generations would lead me to lawyer up and get it back.
Incorrect in this case. He can easily get it back by re-registering as long as the DV case is cleared. It can all be done directly through the license division which will then release it from the property clerk.
He already broke the law by failing to renew his permit, he can kiss his permit good buy. Plus DV case that can be used against him by firearms gestapo. No one will give him his gun back unless ordered by the court. Even if the gun was registered they will not give it back voluntarily. Nassau county is just as bad, but no requirement for long gun permit makes gun retention a little safer.

He did not break a law, that's why he wasn't arrested. NYC's long gun permits are local administrative codes. One cannot be arrested for them. This is why technically an upstate FFL can sell a long gun to a city resident who doesn't possess a NYC rifle shotgun permit (good luck finding one who will).

You do talk out of your ass, because I know for a fact this is not true. When they ask you to surrender your firearms, they will routinely lie to you implying it's not a big deal and you will get everything back without a problem once the issue is resolved, but it never happens that way. I know a number of people who gone through this.
Maybe they should do as you described, BUT THEY DO NOT.

That’s a federal law which would apply to anyone in the country.
I have a news for you. Firearms can be misused by just about anyone in infinite number of situations. Citing a tragic example to justify gun control is what gun grabbers do. Not even fudds, GUN GRABBERS.

Those “tragic” examples happen all to often where the cop cuts a break to the person and it comes back to haunt him. Not all involving firearms.
The officers didn’t search the house for a gun. The wife put them in that spot . He put them in that spot.
Imagine if airborne got that “job “ and was canned for not taking the rifle. Who do you think they would replace him with. Probably someone who would search for those guns etc etc.
If the guy had renewed permit, he probably would still have the gun especially if Airborne has responded to the job. Many others would have taken the gun for safekeeping even with the permit.

We disagree on what the 2nd admendment allows and restrictions here on this forum and we are “gun guys”. Some here are constitutional carry and others are shall issue.
What do think the real world is like then. There are some who are anti gun, some don’t care either way.
There are plenty of anti gun people to take them. It’s an honest disagreement among reasonable people. Remember that until Heller most non gun guys believed it was a collective right and many still believe Heller does not apply outside the home.
