I want a bear one day for sure. Caribou is awesome, had a bunch when I visited my friend in Alaska. Moose I found unappetizing. My boss shot one last year and gave me a bunch. We all know elk is the best.

Thats funny,I did a bear trip in Canada years ago.They fed us a lot of moose at the camp.I thought it was the best game meat I ever tasted.

Honestly I got it from my boss and really don't know how well it was cared for. This was the only time I have ever had it. It's very possible that it wasn't butchered correctly or was handled poorly between butchering and getting to me.

My BIL got a moose and gave me a good sized roast. I sliced some of a piece, avoiding the fat and fried it up for breakfast, a more foul tasting piece of shoe leather I never had. At the time I had coon hounds, so I threw it in the oven and figured it would be good dog meat. Told my wife I would take care of it when I got home at noon. When I walked in the house I was greeted with a wonderful aroma. Took it out of the oven and sliced off a chunk, fat and all. It was delicious. Told my BIL about it and he said unlike deer, Moose fat is really good and when the outfitter butchered up the moose they keep all the excess fat and cook everything in it.

I never had Moose before. My uncle when I was just a kid use to hunt Moose, But I don't remember ever trying it before.

According to the guides that ran the camp I was at said that moose is very tender,which I found to be so,because they are very slow moving and eat a lot of moss and stuff in swamps.Said the same about the fat as Robins bil.I found it to be sort of sweet tasting,in every way we ate it,roasts,burgers,steaks,stew even had moose lasagna one day.They would shoot 4 every year to feed the camp for spring and fall bear seasons and deer season too.It was a great trip,we did seven nights,there were 17 of us and we took 19 bear.They are like cockroaches up there.I always wanted to go back for a deer hunt.In the dining cabin they had about 50 deer head and antler mounts,the smallest was 13 points,biggest was 23.

Going for pigs again monday, same place as last year. Not the most exciting hunt but I had fun last year and the meat was amazing so why not give it another go?

Last year I used my PSA KS-47 with a red dot on it. I want to switch it up this year. Unfortunately my AR-10 is not yet sighted in fully. Leaning towards my Marlin 1895 in .45-70 but also considering my Marlin 336 in .30-30 (open sights).

I have others obviously. Suggestions?

PA. It’s a not exactly fair chase, but it’s not caged either. It’s a large island and you have to do the work to find them yourselves.

I don't use their butchers because of the distance. I have one a few miles into NJ over the bridge here that handles pigs and does an amazing job. The first time, we did it ourselves but it was a lot of work.

The sweet spot seems to be late-Feb to mid-Mar. Last year we went in April towards the end and it was too hot. The pigs just laid around, it was too easy. At least this year they were moving around feeding when we found them. I'm going to go around the same time next year as we did this year.

We found a great hotel about 20 min from the place with a good bar across the street. We'll be staying there again the night before, then head straight home after the hunt. This year we were on the road by 1230.

Yesterday went as planned. Took a 280-300lb pig with a headshot from the KS-47.

Yes the rams were the first animals we encountered but they are small. My cousin took one last year. The meat is outstanding, but you get about as much as if you took a fawn deer.

I didn't take many pictures, just the one mandatory pose with the kill. I'll see if it's still on my phone.

My dad referred to them as "free range pigs" when we did a boar hunt for his 60th.

I like my venison. I make jerky and sausage with the venison. If the hog meat it too funky I would turn it to sausage.

Just finished the last of the venison sausage our friend gave us. We let him hunt our property, since we're never there to do it, and in return he give us a roll of sausage and some jerky. The sausage he has processed, the jerky he makes himself. My boys, husband and I had all the jerky eaten by the time we'd gone from PA to NJ, lol.

My oldest boy lives in Richmond, Texas. He bagged these 2, both on the same afternoon. He was using his boss's AR-10. It's considered nuisance control down there! I hope to join him next time I'm visiting them.
