This specifically is what has me suspicious and unwilling to engage in substantive conversation with you. If nothing else, this thread has forced me to finally admit that this forum is under watchful eyes and has made me much LESS likely to openly discuss ANY topic going forward, especially this one.

Your comments directed at me highlight why cops mostly avoid forums like this and rarely express strong support (as I do often) for non-compliance and such in regards to gun laws. I've always posted here knowing full-well that a malicious actor could use my personal 2nd Amendment views against me if so inclined, but never before have I been blatantly put on notice as happened in this thread.

Your demeanor and style may be friendly and congenial, but myself (and others) are rightly suspicious and have keyed onto specific clues which point towards a different agenda.

everyone else ignore my comments, I don’t want to drag out this thread. Another thread has been created that addresses the topicof advancing gun rights in NY State in a practical manner.

Let the record stand that I’m not trying to drag out this thread and that I’m not trying to be annoying. I’m responding to a specific request!

• As has been stated, I have checked out this forum from time to time, over a period of about two years (I check out the other NY gun forums also)

• The other day I noticed the forum about Monsey (where I live).

• I decided to register on the forum in order to specifically respond to some of the comments.

• My reasoning for doing so was to add clarity and a different perspective in response to some of the opinions posted (I believe I have been transparent about this)

• I admittedly felt my community was being unfairly criticized up to a point (I have been transparent about this as well)

• I felt that a constructive dialogue could take place, and that the conversation could then be shifted to something more proactive (as I have stated).

Now, to address your specific points:

• When I first came across this particular thread I was curious if what at the time appeared to me to be unfair generalizations, was posted on other threads.

• I simply typed in my search engine:

“NY Gun Forum, Jews, Orthodox, Hasidic, Monsey, KJ, Rockland”

• The results produced were a few threads.

• I skimmed those threads and noticed the same people making the same types of comments (I did not pay attention to when these threads were posted, etc)

• At the time, I felt that rather than posting responses on multiple threads, I could convey what I wanted in one place (for efficiency)

• The “agenda” was to respond to what I thought was unfair criticisms of my community. (I’m sick of having to repeat this), and to shift the conversation

• I was looking for dialogue and guess what, that’s what happened!

• In fact, your responses, Will, Day444, etc completely shifted my understanding of the intent of what you were initially trying to convey.

• With dialogue, I realized that you guys aren’t anti Semitic, aren’t bashing my community for keeping to its way of life, but we’re criticizing certain communal behavior that you felt was unethical.

• Once that was put in perspective, I had a better understanding of your comments.

• It’s reasonable that seeing a “spreading cancer”, could be taken the wrong way, when you’re coming from where I’m coming from.

• Just like you don’t like generalizations about LE, you can imagine that I don’t appreciate generalizations about my community.

• I feel this has been resolved and the points have been beaten into the ground.

• Have I responded to your questions sufficiently?

In summation, I’m a guy, I happen to be Jewish and live in Monsey, and I like guns...

I want to be able to own an 11.5” AR, with a regular stock, put a suppressor on it & call it a day.

I’d like the laws to change so that can be achieved, is that reasonable?

As a strong supporter of gun rights who has made statements (that I stand by) and taken actions which often run counter to what some above me would consider my sworn duties, I cannot overlook that some of it may have been viewed and catalogued by someone who’d possibly use my stances against me.

Unfortunately, this entire episode has made me reconsider my participation here. It’s a real shame, mostly an outgrowth of our alienation as gun owners living in this oppressive state, but when one’s livelihood is at stake, cautions must be adhered to.

If you reread my posts, you will see I actually said I realized that my initial understanding of your comments was not accurate and publicly stated that our dialogue has caused me to have a better understanding of your view point.

I think that this theme, and it's author, had/has good intentions. In the current climate we are all, perhaps erroneously, wary of more attacks on our rights and some feel that it would be better to remain in the shadows. I for one am all for public discussion and getting more people involved. The Orthodox community has enormous voting power, if they can stand with the 2A community it would be a plus.

I think the biggest hurdle here is actually the volume of information in your posts, not the content.

Simply put, most people here don't want to read that much all at once before responding.

That's a pretty common concern across the internet.
Generally on discussion boards like this you need to spoon feed information to the masses, not conduct a data dump.

So, you need to pick one narrow point at a time to discuss and provide succinct responses.

I think my posts frequently get too long for easy digestion, and yours are far larger.

Most are going to be dismissed with a simple TLDR, regardless of the content or quality.
