Either he got into another fight immediately after being released or Putnam County is giving him the ramrod and waited for him to waste 10000 bucks so that they can lock him up again.

This wasn't a red flag situation though. Why would we discuss that? This is exactly my point.

A bunch of yahoos from all of the country decided to involve themselves in a local matter because for some reason (or many reasons?) they decided it was somehow a 2nd Amendment issue. They then all apparently had emergencies which needed to be reported via 911 in Putnam County, resulting in a clogging of the system.

I mean, that must be what happened since everyone knows there is literally no other legitimate reason to call 911, right?

Then, to make matters worse, they encouraged hero operators to rally up to meet the police, further inflaming the situation. Hopefully an example is made of those who were arrested in doing so. Maybe a few of the false 911 callers as well.

You know what? I'm going to pull a random job from our computer that happened today. We'll just decide it's a 2nd Amendment issue and then discuss it from the point of view of "cops and government are bad so even if we are dead wrong, who cares?"
I mean after all, because of everything going on supposedly, even when wrong, it's just a "sign of the times" so who could fault us?










IF that doesn't speak to you as where I am coming from in regards to THIS situation, well I don't know what else to say other than legitimate victims already are paying for police reluctance and it will only get worse if NONSENSE like this happens more often.

1) No disagreement that this is likely not a 2A issue, but I'll wait till the dust settles and all charges have been filed. Agreed that jumping to a conclusion doesn't help anyone.

2) If the police are reluctant to do something because the citizenry may get pist off / take up arms, then the problem is likely the local policies of a given area aren't in sync with the will of the people living there. That's a larger issue than a single incident, which is likely the catalyst for tensions anyway.

A lot of us are hoping that police come out more publicly and object to policies they're being made to enforce which most would consider unfair or unlawful. If the people saw, more publicly, that LEO isn't happy about a lot of it either, then it would humanize the police more in these cases. (Although, I think anyone who had a job on the line would be reluctant to object, so I can understand the hesitation -- but perhaps not justify it given the stakes of staying silent / the position of power LEO is in here.)

To get back to GoPerfect's point later on in this thread after your post, a lot of other states sort of turn a blind eye to CA and NY. The rest of the states need to get their heads out of their asses and realize that if you allow unconstitutional bullshit to happen in another state, you're only buying yourself time for when it happens in your own.

Cops charge you with crime, arrest you. You get out on bail and then they add on another charge and back to jail you go.

So what is it that you are saying? All jokes aside, there is absolutely no way at all to verify any information. And even if you could, it would boil down to if you are okay with red flag infringements for people that haven’t been convicted of a crime. Because whether it’s a true red flag from a doctor or a a school official or a wife claiming Domestic Violence whether true or not , either way they are the same. A man is getting his guns confiscated without a hearing, trial, or conviction based on the word of another.

I would want to help a Felon as well that called for help. The Constitution never said that Felons who served time for a DWI or perjury or for having marijuana are okay to be infringed upon.

After reading all this, I am still left in the dark as to which account is more accurate. I'm a naturally suspicious person, and tend not to take statements at face value in the first place. I’m a criminal. I have been in fights with others in the past on the street that would have resulted in one or both of us being arrested if the police were to be in the area or if someone called them. I have carried in places once or twice where the government didn’t give me permission to carry whether by accident or on purpose. I have held arms and or magazines that the government has declared illegal for me to hold past an arbitrary deadline. I have fought back when women were fighting me in my own home by yelling, pushing, and throwing things that would be considered a domestic situation by the government if they ever got wind of it. I have smoked pot and had all the paraphernalia that goes along with it including the bong and baggie before on my possession in my younger years while in a car with others. I have driven a car with a few beers under my belt.

I’m a criminal that shouldn’t have guns according to someone here and if I was ever caught at the time for my past crimes or if my domestic partner was vindictive for a fight and or argument that she had an equal part in and called the police, I would be that guy that is demonized here. I would deserve to have my rights infringed upon because I’m just a fucking criminal.

Do you have insider information on that? Was it an actual assault that would have resulted in jail time or was it an argument that was labeled a Domestic Violence that in turn had his guns confiscated? Was the burglary forcefull into another’s home or was it in his own home?

Because unlike times where we've discussed gun laws being "broken" and people might say "bad case, the guys is into weed," or "how about only breaking one law at once?"... the difference here is that crimes may have been committed that actually have real, citizen victims. Anyone supporting this guy is supporting an actual perp in direct relation to crimes he committed against citizens. Not cops, not the government, not local laws: a fellow citizen with rights to not be a victim of crimes.

Step two would be if his rights were being violated. They weren't. The cops waited him out and negotiated, a tactic which has been used for DECADES in this country. He was arrested peacefully and brought before a judge where he was given bail. All tenets that form the basis of our nation's system of laws.

The important thing of note here is that his supporters are in fact encouraging the breakdown of our system of laws by attacking during an incident which confirms the most base level need for a justice system: redress for crimes committed against fellow citizens.

Regardless of his innocence, that is what the justice system is for. His attorneys, the various laws and precedent which govern the process from arrest to trial. He was afforded all of that which applied at the early stages of this case. There was no overt indication of anything besides a routine arrest involving a perp with real accusers.

Now if this is what mobs are going to support, then we aren't seeing the beginning of a movement to address a suppressive government. We are seeing the beginning of a movement to achieve mob rule and vigilante justice. That is not a good thing. It is the news not because it's impressive but because it is scary and could be indicative of a coming time when no government role in law enforcement will be tolerated, which is not how a functioning society works.

Maybe try this one: explain to me the difference between supporting this guy and supporting an armed robber (where at least the presence of a gun is verified). OR, if it applies to your viewpoint, explain the efficacy of supporting both. Not in regards to ensuring their rights within the justice system are carried out properly, but in regards to interfering with the police's ability to arrest the perp in the first place.
