For off hand shooting weight distribution has a huge part in accuracy, for me anyway. A slight 'barrel heavy' helps. Many of the muzzleloaders I make are in the 6-7 pound range with swamped (tapered and flared) barrels, 44"-46" long. That little bit extra weight at the end of the barrel has a big stabilizing effect. Probably a real competition shooter could explain it better.
